My favourite Uecker line was when someone asked him what the highlight of his career once and he said, "It must have been the time with the Cardinals when I walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive in the winning run in an intrasquad game in spring training."

...and he was famous for saying that the best way to catch Phil Niekro's knuckler was to wait until it stopped rolling, and then pick it up. He also once stole a tuba during the 1964 World Series and used it to catch fly balls in batting practice.
