The latest fine piece by Spencer Fordin on the Official Site is about Chris Woodward. He's a likeable young man with a fantastic attitude; the only "knock on Wood" is his durability -- he hasn't suffered serious injuries, but is often dinged up.

Fortunately, his recent hamstring pull does not appear serious (though I'll be concerned if he doesn't start today) and we can look forward to 500+ AB and 20 taters in his first full season as a regular. Knock on wood.

Yesterday's MLB.com game notes could have gone into the previous thread, but that's become a discussion about broadcasters. Since Woodward's unique role as student (picking Mike Bordick's brain) and teacher (giving Russ Adams pointers) is prominently mentioned, here it is.

Injured Francisco Rosario and Howie Clark were officially sent down, and there's a mention of Shawn Fagan, who quietly had a fine season for AA Tennessee last year, drawing over 100 walks. At Indiana, Fagan was a 3B/P, so he could be a better fielder than some of the other 1B prospects in the system. He needs to develop more power to beat out the likes of Phelps, JFG, and the mighty Jasons -- Perry and (if the Jays can keep him) Dubois. We'll see if Fagan goes to New Haven or Syracuse, but he's helped his career with a good spring.

...and another pleasant riff while we wait for opening day: Geoff Baker's piece on the Jay's bp pitchers today in the Star.

Good catch, rodent.

Now that I have alumni coming back to help with the high school team, I don't have to subject my tired old body (think John Kruk gone completely to seed) to pitching BP any more. Those guys earn their money.

Gammons has some good things to say about the Jays. This is the second time in two weeks that he has gushed about Hudson.

"The Blue Jays have seen a tireless worker and vastly improved player in second baseman Orlando Hudson. They are very excited about a few kids, notably right-hand pitcher Aquilino Lopez (who they acquired in the Rule V draft), outfielder John-Ford Griffin and last year's No. 1 pick, second baseman Russ Adams. Also, Jeff Tam is healthy and throwing as he did two years ago."
