Speaking of former Jays rotation stalwarts, there's a nice piece at MLB.com about Toronto's first Cy Young Award winner, Pat Hentgen. Pat is coming back from Tommy John surgery (as is half the Orioles' rotation, apparently), but as usual, he's taking a positive attitude and he's helping younger teammates who are also facing TJ surgery to cope with the challenge.

Pat always seemed to be one of the good guys, a great representative of the organization on and off the field. It's a shame his career was so much shorter than it might otherwise have been. He has very little chance of making it all the way back, but I wish him every good fortune in the effort.

By the way, am I the only person who thought Pat was separated at birth from this person?

10-9 Jays!!! They came back from 7-3 on the strength of 3 RBIs from the Odogg. 4-0 in Spring Training. What a great start.

If only spring training meant something...

Jody Foster would probably improve the O's rotation. (Hey, it was right there; somebody had to take it!)

With Sturtze's two scoreless innings today, Jays' starters have yet to give up a run this spring. Nice beginning.

Today's heroes:

- Orlando Hudson, three hits, a HR and a sparkling catch. If he's being showcased for a trade, he's writing a first-class ticket out of town.

- Tanyon Sturtze, two scoreless innings, two Ks. It was the Pirates, true, but nice all the same.

- Corey Thurman, two scoreless relief innings

- Jayson Werth, game-tying sac fly and two fine defensive plays

- Kevin Cash, key two-run double

- Brian Bowles, clutch save, entered with bases loaded, nobody out, gave up one run on groundout to preserve win.

Today's sort-of goats:

- Dave Berg, homered but also made two important errors at third

- Vinny Chulk, threw well in the eighth but couldn't close the door in the ninth

- Diegomar Markwell, gave up three runs but suffered pretty putrid defence behind him

First cuts: Griffin and Arnold were sent (down) to the minor league camp after today's game. No surprises there!

Of course this MAGNIFICENT WINNING STREAK means nothing since it's spring training. However, it's also not a good indicator of reality because of the margins of victory in the games - no more than 2 runs. If the Jays had been blowing out the opposition, that would be one thing. They aren't. I wonder how come Escobar hasn't pitched yet.
