Sad as we are to see Michael Turconi promoted to New Hampshire, the Vancouver Canadians capitalized on some odd plays by Sri City The Dust Devils outfielders to come away with another home win at Rogers Field at Nat Bailey last night.
Stifled by Dust Devils starter Sammy Natera Jr., it was the sixth inning that made the difference for Vancouver on Dasan Brown’s inside-the-park homer and Alex De Jesus homer that made it 4-2. The De Jesus homer came just three pitches after Brown’s.
With yet another Adam Macko start for us to review, the Blue Jays #9 prospect had four solid innings, allowing one run on four singles, two walks and seven strikeouts to match his season high.
Devereaux Harrison will pitch tonight for Vancouver against Tri-City’s Michael Darrell-Hicks. Harrison has twice been the pitcher of the week in the Northwest League and was the pitcher of the month in June as well.
Buffalo Bisons
Buffalo has now dropped the first two games of their series against the Worcester Red Sox, losing 5-4 on Wednesday night.
Following up on Tuesday’s 10-9 loss, The Bisons did get on the scoreboard in the sixth inning with an Ernie Clement double to center that scored Rafael Lantigua. Spencer Horwitz also doubled as the next batter scoring Clement.
Buffalo now looks to win today’s game in order to reclaim their hold on first place.
New Hampshire Fisher Cats
It was two come-from-behind wins for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Wednesday as Tuesday’s game was postponed due to bad weather.
Chad Dallas pitched again in one of the two games striking out a Double-A high 10 in five strong innings. He was tagged with a no-decision though which was too bad as Dallas was one strikeout shy of matching his career-high of 11 set earlier this year in Vancouver.
Trevor Schwecke answered the bell for the Fisher Cats in the second inning with his fifth homer of the season. Schwecke is hitting a team-best .452 against left-handed pitching.
Schwecke was part of the scoring again in the seventh reaching base on a leadoff walk. He then moved to second on an Andres Sosa bunt. A wild pitch advanced him to third. Riley Tirotta then lifted a fly ball deep enough into center to score Schwecke, giving New Hampshire a 3-2 victory.New Hampshire fell behind in Game Two 3-0 thanks to an Oliver Dunn homer that put Reading ahead in the third inning. The Fisher Cats then got home runs from Rainer Nunez and Miguel Hiraldo in the fourth to score four runs. The second game ended 5-3 for New Hampshire.
Dunedin Blue Jays
The Dunedin Blue Jays scored five runs in the ninth inning to tie their series with the Lakeland Flying Tigers at a game a piece on Wednesday night.
Dunedin set to work early in the game scoring in the first to make it 2-0 thanks to Jace Bohrofen’s home run. The 6th round pick was making his Single-A debut in this one and he started it with bang pounding a ball 428 feet.
It was 5-0 Dunedin by the fifth inning thanks to Tucker Toman’s hit that went off Lakeland’s Carlos Marcano’s hip while he stood on the pitcher’s mound. Glenn Santiago had previously been on base with a double and Abiezel Ramirez with a single and Toman’s hit bough them both home.
Dunedin’s bullpen let them down though as Yondrei Rojas held Lakeland to one run in a great outing for him. Felipe Bello and Josh Mollerus counldn’t do the same surrendering four runs to knot the game at five.
Toman, Brennan Orr, and Nick Goodwin all had RBI’s in the top half of the ninth to cue a five-run ninth for Dunedin to make it 10-5. Lakeland would get two more but Grayson Thurman managed to hold the Flying Tigers and seal the deal fro the 10-7 victory.
