NOTES

Danny Jansen had three hits but he was overshadowed by Davis Schneider. Schneider had four hits, a single, a double and two home runs. That takes his home run count up to 14. Schneider hit .242 with a .815 OPS in April. In May he hit .264 with an OPS of .975. In 8 games in June he is hitting .400 with a 1.305 OPS.

Schneider and Orelvis have similar offensive profiles. They both have uppercut swings and hit home runs. I heard Eno Sarris talking about hitters like Joey Gallo who have a 50% plus fly ball rate. His point was that few hitters can maintain a good batting average with a 50% flyball rate. That set me to look up the flyball rate for the Jays minor league hitters. Among Blue Jay regulars Danny Jansen, Matt Chapman and Daulton Varsho have the highest fly ball rates, around 46% or 47%. Vladdy is at 36%, Bo 25%, Springer 34%. So he was suggesting that a high fly ball rate equals a low average. Looking at line drives, Bo has a 28% line drive rate, Vladdy is at 20%.

So back to the minor leagues. Orelvis has a 50% fly ball rate and a 17% line drive rate. Schneider is at 48% FB and 17% LD. They could be high power, low batting average hitters. They would do better if they lowered their fly ball rate a bit and increased their line drive rate. Easier said than done.

Back to Buffalo, Otto Lopez had three hits and three RBI. Spencer Horwitz, two hits and three RBI.

Zach Thompson, fresh off his DFA, allowed one run in five innings. Yosver Zulueta gave up two hits in an inning. Hagen Danner got five outs, three via strikeout.

Will Robertson hit a grand slam in the seventh inning to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 6-4 lead for NH. Leo Jimenez, Orelvis Martinez and Phil Clarke had two hits each.

Adam Kloffenstein went five innings, he had a shutout through four innings. Then an error put a man on. He got the next two outs but then a double and a home run gave Harrisburg three runs. Kloff's command was a bit off, he needed 88 pitches, 49 strikes, 39 balls. The fabulous relief trio of Fluharty, Cooke and Brock took it home. Fluharty has 12 K's in 8 AA innings.

Ryan Jennings made his first start for Vancouver. He went four innings, one run allowed on three hits with four K's.

The C's scored ten runs. Three home runs generated six runs. Dasan Brown hit a solo shot, his second, one of two hits for him. Michael Turconi had a two run homer, his fourth. Cade Doughty hit his sixth, a three run one.

Dunedin jumped out to an 8-0 lead but let Bradenton tie the game. That sent the game to extra innings. In the top of the tenth, with one out, Juan Gonzalez doubled in the go ahead run. The Jays took the one run lead to the bottom of the tenth. With one out Gonzalez threw out the ghost runner trying to steal third. Gonzalez won it offensively and defensively. Gonzalez was 2-2 with a walk. Ryan McCarty was 3-5 and drove in four runs. He hit two home runs, his 5th and 6th. Roque Salinas also had three hits.

Irv Carter started, and held Bradenton hitless for 4.2 innings. He had two K's.
