Things Are Looking Up

April was a really bad month for most of the Jays minor league system. On some nights it was hard to find something positive to say. Happily things are turning around, the teams are winning more and many players are producing very good performances. On Friday Buffalo walked off Syracuse for the second night in a row and the third time this week. Jordan Luplow his a three run home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth to walk it off. It was his second home run of the night. New Hampshire scored 14 for the win. Vancouver scored ten. Dunedin were the only losers.

Syracuse 6 Buffalo 8

New Hampshire 14 Reading 6

Everett 2 Vancouver 10

Clearwater 9 Dunedin 3 - 8 innings

Three Stars

Third Star - Orelvis Martinez and Miguel Hiraldo

Second Star - Trenton Wallace

First Star - Jordan Luplow

NOTES

Mitch White still hasn't found his form. He threw three innings on Friday, four hits, four walks, four runs, just two strikeouts. White hit a batter and threw two wild pitches.

Jordan Luplow hit his second home run, a two run shot in the first inning and the walk off three run shot in the ninth. Spencer Horwitz was 2-4, his average is now .327.

A week or so ago Hayden Juenger looked like the next man up in case of a Blue Jay injury. But he now has had three not so good outings in a row. In this game we was charged with two runs on two hits and two walks.

Mick Abel is the Phillies number two prospect. He and Sem Robberse faced off in Reading. It didn't turn out as expected. Robberse was charged with six runs in three innings, Abel with nine in 3.2. Robberse didn't have "it", he was taken deep twice and also gave up three doubles. After Robberse, the bullpen went six shutout innings.

Orelvis is back to his three true outcomes. Two home runs and three strikeouts, five RBI. I mentioned yesterday that Miguel Hiraldo was hitting well. He homered and doubled and drove in five as well. And to copy Orelvis, he also struck out three times.

Vancouver had 12 hits including three home runs. Gabriel Martinez hit a three run shot in the fifth inning. He went 2-4 and moved his batting average above .300 after a slow start. Michael Turconi also hit a three run shot, in the sixth, and he too is now hitting over .300. Alex De Jesus hit his third, a solo shot, in the sixth inning.

Trenton Wallace went five shutout innings, no hits, no walks, seven K's. That lowered his ERA to 1.80. That is ten shutout innings over his last two starts for Wallace.

Irv Carter made his first start of the season for Dunedin. The first inning was fine, the second not so much and Carter was pulled after 1.2 innings. Carter had problems from time to time last season. Its not fair to judge after one appearance.
