Buffalo lost both ends of a doubleheader. They lost them both early as the starting pitching was not good again. To compound their misery they did not have a hit in game two until their last at bats. They did manage to score two runs in that last at-bat against former Jay Anthony Kay. New Hampshire won in ten inning. Vancouver lost while Dunedin won, again with a good start by Rafael Sanchez.

Iowa 10 Buffalo 2 - game one

Iowa 3 Buffalo 2 - game two

New Hampshire 3 Somerset 2 - 10 innings

Vancouver 3 Everett 4

Dunedin 2 Palm Beach 0

Three Stars

Third Star - Trevor Schwecke

Second Star - Luis De Los Santos

First Star - Rafael Sanchez

NOTES

Zach Thompson was supposed to be a good option in case any of the Jays starters hit the IL. He hasn't shown that he is a good option yet. This was another poor start, six runs conceded in four innings.

Vosver Zulueta is another reinforcement option in AAA. He needed 29 pitches to get out of the first inning in game two. 15 were strikes and 14 balls. He gave up two runs. The second inning needed 24 pitches with two walks and a hit batter. 12 strikes and 12 balls. That was it for Zulueta.

Luis De Los Santos, who probably should be in AAA, went 4-4 for New Hampshire and is hitting .349. Trevor Schwecke had three more hits, the last one an extra inning, game winning RBI, and is hitting .429.

Adam Macko made his first appearance of the season today. He went four innings and struck out seven. More encouraging was his strike throwing, 41 strikes and 24 balls. He only walked one. Abdiel Mendoza followed Macko for his third appearance. In three tries he has pitched nine innings, five hits, one walk and nine strikeouts. His ERA is 1.00. He ha sone start and two relief appearances. It is not clear how the Jays intend to use him.

Rainer Nunez was one of the darlings of the winter and spring training. But, as often happens, he got off to a slow start following the hot spring. He had just one hit over his first four games. But he has five hits over his last three games including his first home run, hit yesterday. Unfortunately he made his first error of the season today, in a key situation in the eighth inning.

Jommer Hernandez, the C's 22 year old catcher, is the hottest hitter on the team. He is hitting .400. There is nothing in his history to say this will last but I hope he enjoys the ride. Another hot hitter, Alan Roden, doubled and walked. He is hitting .333.

Rafael Sanchez had another excellent start, seven shutout innings. He only needed 61 pitches. He used a four pitch mix. If he continues this for a couple more starts he could be on his way to Vancouver.
