NOTES

Ricky Tiedemann recorded nine outs, all by strikeout. He was limited to 49 pitches as the Jays try and manage his workload in the first half of the season. He had 13 swing and misses.

Ricky T was not the only pitcher with nine K's. Rafael Sanchez had nine against the Yankees of Tampa. Sanchez, the 23 year old Cuban, now has two very good starts this season. Sanchez went six innings. Just over 50% of his pitches were sliders. Sanchez had 13 whiffs on the slider and 19 total. The heavy slider usage suggests a future in the bullpen.

Addison Barger singled in the sixth inning. That ended a 1-13 stretch.

Similarly Orelvis Martinez was 1-21 for the season coming into the seventh inning. He hit his first home run. Orelvis has not struck out more than you would expect, six times in 21 at-bats. But he had terrible BABIP luck. His at-bats do seem more controlled than last season but when you are learning a new skill, in his case strike zone control, it can take a while to embed itself. Orelvis also made an error, his fourth of the year.

Manuel Beltre was off to a hot start but he was hit by a pitch on Thursday and immediately taken out of the game.

Jay Jackson for Buffalo gave up a run in the eighth another in the ninth.

Michael Turconi went deep twice for Vancouver. Turconi, a left handed hitter facing a left handed pitcher, hit both homers to the opposite field. Two oppo tacos! Devonte Brown hit a grand slam and had five RBI in the same game. Alex DeJesus was 3-3 with a walk.
