A couple of Canadians led the way on Thursday. Tanner Kirwer had three hits as New Hampshire had the bats going, fifteen hits in all. In addition to the hitting, good pitching from Nick Fraze helped secure the win. Vancouver were another team that brought out the lumber as they hit double digits in hits and scored eight runs in their win. Dunedin's Dasan Brown was the star for Dunedin in a close win. Buffalo's Zach Logue didn't have it and Buffalo lost.
Worcester 8 Buffalo 5
Binghamton 3 New Hampshire 10
Vancouver 8 Hillsboro 6
Dunedin 3 Lakeland 2
FCL Blue Jays 8 FCL Yankees 6 - Game 1
FCL Blue Jays 3 FCL Yankees 4 - game 2
This is what I noted from yesterday's games.
Zach Logue has been pitching well for Buffalo but that came to a halt in the first inning. He hit two batters than gave up a double and a home run and the Bisons were down 4-0 before they came to bat. Logue hit one of those batters again in the third and he scored on another double. Then the hitter who homered in the first, homered again in the fifth. In total Logue went five innings but gave up six runs. Kyle Johnston gave up his first run in AAA while Fitz Stadler and Jacob Barnes kept their zero ERA's.
Cullen Large hit a two run home run and was 2-4. Forrest Wall was 2-4 with a walk. Richard Urena also had two hits.
Fifteen hits and three home runs for New Hampshire. Three hits and three runs scored for Tanner Kirwer including his fifth home run. His home run was an inside the park one. Five other hitters had two hits each. Jordan Groshans was 2-5 to keep his hot streak going. Samad Taylor also had two hits. The three home runs were from Kirwer, Ryan Gold and Demi Orimoloye.
Nick Fraze made his third start in AA, his longest. In his three starts he has allowed three, two and now one run. His ERA is 3.86.
Rafael Lantigua took the first pitch of the game over the wall for a home run. That was the start of the hit fest. Every hitter in the lineup had at least one hit, six of them also walked. Six scored runs and six drove in a run. Lantigua and Phil Clarke had two hits each. Clarke drove in three runs.
CJ Van Eyk threw to perfect innings, 19 pitches, and was pulled before the third. I am not sure if it was injury related or pitch limits as we are getting late in the season. Van Eyk doesn't even get a mention in the post game write up on the C's website. Hagen Danner threw two more shutout innings with two K's.
In Dunedin Trent Palmer made his first start since his no hitter. He wasn't as sharp in this game. In the second inning he walked the bases full and a single scored a run. Another run scored in the fifth on a wild pitch. Palmer threw five innings, three hits, four walks and six K's.
Dasan Brown had a good game. In the first inning he walked, stole second, and scored on a PK Morris single. In the seventh, after a couple of walks, Hugo Cardona and Brown each singled in a run. Brown was 2-4 with a walk.
In the first FCL game the top three in the Jays order were rehabbers. They recorded four of the Jays six hits and drove in seven of the eight runs. Leo Jimenez was 1-3, Trevor Schwecke was 1-3 with three RBI and Brock Lundquist was 2-4 with a home run. Lundquist's rehab must be almost over at this stage. Rikelbin De Castro had a single and two walks but made two errors.
In the second FCL game the Jays had six hits, all singles. Amell Brazoban had two to keep his batting average at .325.
Three Stars
Third Star - Rafael Lantigua
