The Tampa Yankees are one of the best teams in the minor leagues. The racked up 78 runs on Dunedin in the opening six games of the season. So it was more of the same when they scored 21 runs in the first game of a doubleheader yesterday. But, in the second game, in "you never know in baseball", one of the hottest teams in baseball were held to one run by three pitchers with ERA's over six at the start of the game. Orelvis homered, again, in game one. Elsewhere Breyvic Valera led the Bisons to a win. New Hampshire and Vancouver lost. The complex Jays split a doubleheader and had some good hitting and pitching performances.
Buffalo 4 Rochester 2
New Hampshire 1 Binghamton 5
Spokane 5 Vancouver 4
Tampa 21 Dunedin 2 - game 1
Tampa 1 Dunedin 3 - game 2
FCL Blue Jays 14 FCL Tigers 4 - completion of suspended game
FCL Tigers 3 FCL Blue Jays 1 - game 2
This is what I noted from yesterday's games.
Breyvic Valera drove in two runs in the ninth to turn a tied game into a 4-2 win. Valera had three hits and drove in three of Buffalo's four runs.
The Bisons used six pitchers, three of whom pitched in the majors this season. Tommy Milone started and threw two innings. Nick Allgeyer pitched the longest, 2.2 innings, allowing one run with four K's. John Axford pitched another clean inning.
Maximo Castillo wasn't good as the New Hampshire starter. In three innings Binghamton had six hits and two walks. He was charged with four runs.
The Fishers Cats had seven hits, all singles. Austin Martin and Tanner Kirwer had two each.
Paxton Schultz was pitching well for Vancouver and the game was tied at one headed to the sixth. But Schultz have up a sac fly followed by a three run home run and it was a 5-1 game.
The bottom two hitters in the order had five of the C's eight hits. Davis Schneider went 3-4 and DJ Neal 2-4.
Sem Robberse had to face the red hot Tampa Yankees in game one. It went well for two innings but in the third the Yankees got to him for four runs on six hits. He threw 65 pitches in three innings. He was the best of Dunedin's four pitchers. Orelvis Martinez hit his eighth home run. He was 2-2 and was twice hit by a pitch.
Good pitching held down Tampa in game two. Trent Palmer pitched three hitless innings. He walked four and struck out three. Nathanael Perez threw two shutout innings. Gabriel Ponce gave up a run in his two innings.
The Jays scored three runs on three hits. All three runs came in the third inning. Steward Berroa and Leo Jimenez each singled in a run. Zac Cook scored the third run when he stole home as part of a double steal.
Victor Mejiaan 18 year old, hitting third, hit his first home run, a three run shot. He also had another hit, a double, and another RBI. Amell Brazoban, 19 years old, had three hits, two of them doubles. Dahian Santos pitched well in his second good appearance. He went four innings, did give up a two run home run, but struck out six.
In game two, Eric Pardinho pitched two innings as he works his way back from injury. Jonatan Bernal, a 19 year old from Mexico followed and pitched five shutout innings with four K's.

Third Star - Amell Brazoban
