There were plenty of home runs for the affiliates on Sunday. How is this for a list of those who homered. Kevin Smith, Gabriel Moreno, Jordan Groshans, Orelvis Martinez, Otto Lopez, Vinny Capra, Addison Barger and Rafael Lantigua. You get a home run, you get a home, everyone gets a home run.
Buffalo, New Hampshire and Vancouver all won, Dunedin lost. On the pitching side Jacob Waguespack and Simeon Woods Richardson stood out.
Buffalo 7 Rochester 1
Hartford 5 New Hampshire 8
Everett 1 Vancouver 7
Clearwater 9 Dunedin 3
This is what I noted from yesterday's games.
With the new six game series format, the starter on Tuesday usually faces the same team on Sunday. Jacob Waguespack had to do that and after pitching well on Tuesday he pitched well again today, five shutout innings. After a tricky start to the season Waguespack has a 2.75 ERA in June. He is not on the 40 man but like many pitchers in Buffalo is another option for the Jays.
Kevin Smith hit his tenth home run, his only hit on the day. It was a three run shot. Christian Colon was 3-5, Richard Urena kept up his hot streak with two more hits. And Logan Warmoth also had two hits.
Simeon Woods Richardson had one bad inning, two infield hits, a walk, followed by a bases clearing double accounted for all three runs allowed. He went five innings and had nine K's. Kyle Johnston, who now seems to be coming out of the bullpen, went three innings.
Gabriel Moreno and Jordan Groshans got the scoring started in the second with a double and a single. Both scored. Then it was home run time. Moreno hit a two run shot in the third. Otto Lopez added a solo shot in the fifth. Groshans and Vinny Capra hit solo shots in the seventh. Moreno and Groshans had three hits each. Capra went 2-3 to boost his average above .400. New Hampshire have enjoyed playing Hartford this week.
The C's scored five in the fifth to break the tie. But the hitter who made the last out in that inning had a big game. Rafael Lantigua hit a triple and a home run and drove in two runs. Sebastian Espino also had two hits and two RBI.
Paxton Schultz needed 82 pitches to get through 3.1 innings. Brandon Eisert pitched the next 3.2 innings in shutout style for the win.
Trent Palmer pitched the first two shutout innings with five K's. Julian Valdez relieved him and was hit around for six runs. That was too much for the bats to recover from.
The Jays had only five hits. Orelvis Martinez and Addison Barger each went deep, both solo shots.
