The Blue Jays affiliates won two of three Wednesday. Buffalo's game against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre was rained out so the Herd will play two today.
Portland 5 New Hampshire 4
The Fisher Cats season from hell continues after another loss to the Red Sox affiliate. Simeon Woods Richardson was in line for a victory after surrendering just one run on three hits, two walks and a hit by pitch over five innings while striking out five to drop his earned run average to 2.25. SWR got some help from his defence when Demi Orimoloye started a 9-3-6-2 double play to cut down a runner at the plate to end the second inning. Graham Spraker could not get any of the five hitters he faced, giving up three runs on two hits and three walks. Jon Harris stranded two of three runners for Spraker and pitched two shutout innings but Andrew McInvale took the loss after allowing an unearned run. Kevin Vicuņa was charged with a fielding error at first that put the leadoff man aboard before a pair of two-out singles drove in the winning run.
Samad Taylor continues to swing the hot bat with a three-hit night, including a game-tying home run in the eighth inning. Gabriel Moreno drove in a pair of runs with an RBI single and an RBI double. Austin Martin singled and walked while Brock Lundquist and Nick Podkul added base knocks. Lundquist also had an assist in left field after cutting down a runner a third. New Hampshire now has the worst record in the Jays system by dropping 21 of 31 games.
Vancouver 10 Spokane 2
The best record on the farm belongs to Vancouver who won its 19th game against 13 losses. The C's sent all nine men to the plate in the first inning as they scored five runs against the Rockies affiliate. RBI singles by Cameron Eden, Spencer Horwitz and Luis De Los Santos got things rolling. Sebastian Espino had a sac fly and an RBI single, Eden doubled home another run and Ryan Gold had an RBI single as part of a 3-for-3 night with one intentional walk and one hit by pitch. Eight Canadians had a hit and all nine reached base with Philip Clarke drawing three walks and getting plunked. Spokane has hit seven batters so far in this two-game series while Vancouver has hit one. Tanner Kirwer doubled, walked, stole his 20th base of the year and threw out a runner at second from right field that erased a base hit in the first. Tanner Morris had a base hit and was also walked intentionally.
C.J. Van Eyk coughed up a home run to the first hitter he faced but that just one of two runs allowed in five innings to get his first professional victory. An Espino error at third contributed to an unearned run in the fourth. Van Eyk scattered five hits and two walks, struck out five and induced five outs on the ground. Brandon Eisert worked around two hits and a walk and struck out four in two shutout innings. Adrian Hernandez also whiffed four over two scoreless frames of one-hit ball in his Vancouver debut.
Dunedin 5 Lakeland 4 (11 Innings)
Dunedin wasted a 3-0 lead but battled back to beat the Flying Tigers in overtime to improve to 11-21. Leo Jimenez singled home the tying run in the ninth and brought home the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the 11th. Orelvis Martinez had a three-hit night that included a two-run double in the fifth, needing just a home run to complete the cycle. P.K. Morris was on base four times with two singles and two walks. Steward Berroa had two base raps while Miguel Hiraldo had an RBI single and a base on balls. Zac Cook took two for the team.
Alex Nolan was the winning pitcher by supplying four shutout innings of relief, yielding just one hit and one walk while ringing up three batters. Nathanael Perez walked three batters but struck out two in a two-inning start and Elixon Caballero followed by punching out two and walking one in a scoreless third. Juan De Paula posted zeros in the fourth and fifth but gave up a run in the sixth. He walked three batters and allowed a hit but struck out a pair. Gabriel Ponce blew the save as he was popped for three runs on a hit, a walk and two plunks in the seventh. He also struck out two.
