What do we make of Nick Allgeyer? In his first two starts of the season Allgeyer had a 1.50 ERA with twin six inning starts with just one run allowed in each. That earned Allgeyer a call-up to the big leagues where we know he didn't appear. Back to AAA then and in three games since his return Allgeyer has conceded eleven runs in 10.1 innings. He has gone from major league potential to just hanging on in the AAA rotation. Allgeyer is probably not as good as he was in the first two games, nor as bad as he has been recently. But he needs to find what made him successful at the start of the season.
The same question could be asked of Adam Kloffenstein. In his first three starts, Kloff gave up a total of one run. In his last two starts he was charged with seven runs and six runs. On Saturday he didn't get out of the second inning. Can he, like Allgeyer, fix what ails him?
Allgeyer took the loss for the Bisons on Saturday as did Kloffenstein for the C's. New Hampshire split a doubleheader, Zach Logue had twelve strikeouts in game one. Dunedin had the day off.
Buffalo 2 Scranton 3
New Hampshire 6 Somerset 1 - game one
New Hampshire 0 Somerset 12 - game two
Everett 9 Vancouver 1
Dunedin - scheduled day off
This is what I noted from yesterday's games.
Nick Allgeyer pitched five innings, and was taken deep twice in the third inning, accounting for all three runs allowed.
Kevin Smith drove in both Bison runs when he sliced a ball into right field in the top of the third. Christian Colon had three hits, Tyler White had two.
Zach Logue racked up twelve K's in game one. He pitched six innings and just allowed a solo home run. Logue has 39 K's in 27.1 innings. Gabriel Moreno had two hits and scored two runs. Austin Martin was 1-3 with a walk and two RBI.
Game two was due to be a bullpen game. That didn't work out to plan as Cre Finfrock and Connor Law gave up seven runs in the first inning. It didn't get any better from there. The Fisher Cats had only two hits in a forgettable game.
Adam Kloffenstein just didn't have it on Saturday. He threw 57 pitches in 1.2 innings and was charged with six runs on five hits and three walks.
The C's had just three hits. Spencer Horwitz homered for the only run. Tanner Morris had the other two hits.
Three Stars
Third Star - Gabriel Moreno
Second Star - Christian Colon
First Star - Zach Logue
