Nate Pearson struggled again for Buffalo who lost both ends of a doubleheader. New Hampshire had a wild game one of their doubleheader, which they won, but lost game two. LJ Talley had four RBI in game one while Troy Miller pitched well in his AA debut in game two. Luis Quinones made his 2021 debut and pitched well for Vancouver. The C's won in a walk-off. Dunedin were again beaten up by Tampa's bats.

Buffalo 2 Scranton 4 - game one

Buffalo 2 Scranton 3 - game two

New Hampshire 10 Somerset 8 - 11 innings, game one

New Hampshire 1 Somerset 2 - game two

Everett 4 Vancouver 5

Tampa 10 Dunedin 7

This is what I noted from yesterday's games.

Nate Pearson struggled again. His first inning was OK, but two doubles and a home run contributed to a four run second inning. Pearson went three innings, he did have seven K's, but he needed 71 pitches to get through three innings. He threw 40 strikes and 31 balls, not a good ratio.

Casey Lawrence started game two. Socrates Brito hit a three run home run off him in the first inning. Lawrence pitched three innings with six K's.

Buffalo had four hits in game one and just one, a home run from Christian Colon, in game two.

Game one of the Fisher Cats doubleheader was wild. The Cats were down by two headed to the seventh. LJ Talley, down to his final strike with two outs, doubled home two runs to tie the game. It looked like the Fisher Cats would win the game in the ninth. Otto Lopez singled in the designated runner, then Gabriel Moreno tripled in Lopez. A sac fly from Talley made it a three run lead. Curtis Taylor had already pitched two innings and he went back out for the ninth, his third. Back to back home runs tied the game for Somerset. Another sac fly, this time from Vinny Capra made it an 8-7 game in the top of the tenth. James Dykstra came on to get the save and got two quick outs, but then he had to leave the game with an arm injury. Jon Harris replaced Dykstra. He allowed an infield single and then a double steal let the tying run score. In the eleventh Talley drove in another run with a bases loaded walk and Samad Taylor added a sac fly. Harris finally nailed down the win in the bottom of the eleventh.

Jordan Groshans returned to action and went 2-5 in game one including a two run home run. Gabriel Moreno was 3-6. Neither played in game two. Otto Lopez was 2-4 with a walk in game one and 0-2 with a sac fly in game two.

Maximo Castillo didn't get out of the first inning in game one. He threw 36 pitches to get two outs and presumably left because of the pitch count. He was charged with four runs.

Troy Miller made his AA debut in game two. He pitched five shutout innings with three hits, three walks and three K's. Brady Rodning gave up two runs and took the loss. It was his third loss of the year.

Luis Quinones was placed on the restricted list back in 2019 for failing a drug test. He made his first start of 2021 in this game and went five innings with just an unearned run allowed. Hagen Danner pitched two shutout innings for the win. His ERA is 1.64.

The C's won via the walk off. Spencer Horwitz singled in Tanner Kirwer in the bottom of the ninth for the win. Kirwer scored three of the five runs.

Dunedin and Tampa played a very high scoring series in the first week of the season. They were back to their high scoring ways on Thursday. The Jays outhit the Yankees 9 to 8. The hits were spread around. Addison Bargar had two doubles. Miguel Hiraldo hit his second home run.

The Jays are being cautious with Nick Frasso. For his second start he again just pitched two innings and he was charged with an unearned run on one hit. The best pitcher was Gabriel Ponce who threw two shutout innings with five K's.

Three Stars

Third Star - Troy Miller
