Jays at New York, 25-27 May

The Jays bump into another AL East rival riding a six-game winning streak. Again. At least it's not in Florida. The Yankees have won 23 of their last 32, which has certainly put their 5-10 start firmly in the rear-view. Is this the place, is this the team for Alek Manoah to make his major league debut? Well, why not. This isn't the Stadium that Ruth and Gehrig and DiMaggio and Mantle made famous. That one's across the street, and all those guys are dead anyway. These aren't your father's Yankees. Or your grandfather's. Or your great grandfather's. Except for, you know. winning lots of games.

These Yankees are winning with pitching - no team in the AL gives up fewer runs. It's been necessary because they don't score many runs, averaging barely 4 per game. Judge and Stanton have been awesome, but the rest of the lineup has been pretty mediocre. Stanton has been on the IL with a strained quad - he's eligible to rejoin the roster today. But centre fielder Aaron Hicks may miss the rest of the season. This has left 37 year old Brett Gardner to play in centre. The infield is at last taking on the form the team had always eventually hoped for - Voit, LeMahieu, Torres, Urshela. Except LeMahieu will be absent tonight, on the paternity list, and Voit will be going there later this week.
