The Blue Jays are suffering bullpen woes at the moment, and so are the affiliates. New Hampshire led 2-1 after seven and lost 7-2. Vancouver took a 5-1 lead to the ninth but three walks, a hit batter, a wild pitch and a single brought the game to 5-4 with two runners on. But unlike the Jays, the C's got that final out. Dunedin led 5-1 in the fourth but Clearwater tied it in the eighth and won it in the tenth. Buffalo lost early. After a whitewash yesterday the C's were the only winners on the day.
Buffalo 0 Worcester 4
Portland 7 New Hampshire 2
Vancouver 5 Hillsboro 4
Dunedin 6 Clearwater 8
This is what I noted from yesterday's games.
TJ Zeuch needed 102 pitches to get through 4.1 innings. Six hits, two walks and three steals led to three runs allowed.
The Bisons had six hits. After praising him yesterday, Christian Colon had an oh-fer. Breyvic Valera, back from the Jays, went 2-4. Richard Urena was 2-3.
As mentioned above, the bullpen blew up this game. Willy Gaston gave up a three run shot in the eighth, Fitz Stadler did the same in the ninth. Elvis Luciano started and was pulled in the first with seemed to be a side or lower back issue.
Josh Winkowski got the win for Portland. His ERA is 1.80.
Gabriel Moreno hit a solo home run, his only hit. Vinny Capra was 3-4 with an RBI. Samad Taylor stayed hot with a 2-4 day to push his batting average over .300.
The C's held the Hops off the board until the eighth. Paxton Schultz threw a six inning, two hitter, with no walks. Will McAffer almost blew the win, Parker Caracci had to come on for the save.
Spencer Horwitz was 2-3 with three runs scored. His average is up to .340. There have been numerous Blue Jay first basemen over the years that have hit well until they get to AA. For me, thats where Horwitz will have to show he belongs. Luis De Los Santos was 2-4.
Orelvis Martinez went 3-5 with a double and his third home run. As a 19 year old Martinez seems to be progressing well and has been improving since the start of the season. Jhon Solarte hit his first home run of the season.
The Jays used six pitchers, four of whom conceded runs. Rafael Ohashi pitched well through three innings with two hits and six strikeouts. But the fourth started double, single, triple. Ohashi was pulled and finished with three runs allowed. Among the pitchers was Patrick Murphy on a rehab assignment, who pitched an inning and gave up two runs on three hits.
Three Stars
Third Star - Spencer Horwitz
Second Star - Orelvis Martinez
First Star - Paxton Schultz
