Andy Burns drove in the winning runs in the ninth inning of the Bisons game. It was one of the five times he reached base. That made a winner of Sean Reid-Foley who pitched eight innings. Another winning pitcher was Patrick Murphy who dominated Altoona. Forrest Wall also reach base five times. Chavez Young hit a go ahead three run home run in the eighth to lead Dunedin to victory. Tanner Kirwer hit his three run home run in the first inning and Lansing never looked back. It was an org sweep night!
Buffalo 4 Rochester 3
Sean Reid-Foley breezed through the first inning but in the second, a walk and a home run put the Bisons down 2-0. That was the only blemish on SRF's account. He pitched eight innings and only conceded four hits. He had eight K's and just two walks. He threw 102 pitches, 66 strikes and 36 balls. That is very close to the 2:1 ratio that is normally a minimum for success. The most encouraging part was that SRF avided the bad inning, or two, that often happens to him. Buddy Boshers made his first appearance for the Bisons trying to nail down the win. A lead off double came around to score but Boshers did get the save.
Teoscar Hernandez hit a solo home run, his second in the minors, to get Buffalo on the board. Thereafter Rochester helped out the Bisons. The second, and tying, run came in the fifth inning, Teoscar singled and moved to third on an error. Andy Burns then singled to tie the game. In the ninth inning, three walks loaded the bases and again Andy Burns came to the plate. Burns banged a ground ball up the middle for a two run single. Burns was 3-3 with two walks. Teoscar had two hits.
Altoona 2 New Hampshire 7
Patrick Murphy continued to pitch well. He threw 86 pitches over six innings and allowed one run. He had seven K's and no walks. He was in control the whole way, he had seven ground outs and three fly balls. Taylor Saucedo, back from AAA, pitched two innings.
Kevin Smith came up to bat in the first inning with the bases loaded and one out. He grounded into a double play. In the third he came to the plate with the bases loaded for a second time. He made amends by tripling off the wall in right centre scoring all three runs. In the fifth Alberto Mineo hit a two run home run and in the sixth Vinny Capra doubled in two runs. Those were the only hits for Smith, Mineo and Capra. Forrest Wall was 3-3 with two walks and two runs scored. Christian Williams had two hits to keep his average elevated at .355.
Florida 5 Dunedin 8
As mentioned above, the game was tied at five in the bottom of the eighth. Cullen Large and Ryan Noda walked setting the stage for Chavez Young to hit a three run home run. It was Youngs second game in a row with a home run. Cal Stevenson had homered in the previous inning, his was an inside the park one. Young, Stevenson, Noda and Kevin Vicuna each had two hits. Logan Warmoth came off the injured list, he was rusty and struck out three times.
Nick Allgeyer started and went 5.1 innings. It wasn't his best start, the gave up four runs on eight hits.
Great Lakes 4 Lansing 9
Tanner Kirwer hit a three run home run in the first inning and then Lansing went on to build a 7-1 lead after two innings. Otto Lopez and Hunter Steinmetz went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Luis De Los Santos was 2-3 and is hitting .368. It is interesting to note that the recent arrivals are all hitting well. In addition to De Los Santos Steinmetz is hitting .304 and Gabe Moreno .364. Moreno was 1-4 in the game.
Fitz Stadler pitched 4.1 innings, allowed one run and had six K's. He was followed by Cobi Johnson who pitched four innings with eight K's. Johnson had just given up a homer through 3.2 innings but he put two men on base in the ninth. Sean Rackoski came on and allowed both runners to score.
