Hector Perez had pitched only 16 innings in AA before he was traded to the Jays last summer. So it is understandable if he has taken a while to find his feet at that level, he is still just 22 years old. He pitched well on Wednesday leading New Hampshire to the win. Dunedin racked up eleven runs, Chavez Young broke out with three hits, including a home run. Buffalo and Lansing lost.
Buffalo 0 Rochester 4
Jacob Waguespack could not get out of the first inning. He was pulled with two outs having thrown 41 pitches. He walked four and combined with two hits, he gave up three runs. That turned the game into a bullpen one. Conor Fisk, 3 IP, Dusty Isaacs, 2.1 IP and Jordan Romano, 2 IP, pitched well. Romano has been pitching better after a rough start.
Lourdes Gurriel doubled in the first inning and the Bisons did not have another hit until Teoscar Hernandez singled in the eighth. Andy Burns tripled with two outs in the ninth but that was it, three hits fr the Bisons.
Altoona 1 New Hampshire 2
Hector Perez seems to be sorting things out. This was his fourth good start in a row. In those four starts, covering 23 innings, he has allowed 19 hits, 8 walks and picked up 21 K's. In this game he only conceded one run in six innings. Danny Young, Ty Tice and Bryan Baker combined on three hitless innings of relief.
The Cats had eight hits, eight of the nine hitters had one. Chad Spanberger homered, his fourth. Forrest Wall doubled in Vinny Capra for the other run.
Dunedin 11 St. Lucie 5
Each team had 14 hits and each left ten men on base. Dunedin benefited from more walks, an error and a hit batter. Everyone knows Chavez Young has been struggling this season. He had three hits, including a home run in this game. Is it the start of something? Kevin Smith had a big game last week and it was a one off. Another struggler, Demi Orimoloye, had two hits. Kevin Vicuna has been heating up recently with 8 hits in his last five games, he had two and his average is .257. Chris Bec went into the four hole for Ryan Noda and was 2-3 with a walk.
Maximo Castillo went five innings and needed 86 pitches. He walked no one and had just 2 K's. The Mets got six hits off Castillo, three of them in the fifth inning when they scored their first two runs. Castillo faced 22 hitters, thats almost 4 pitches per hitter, with no walks. He needs to be more economical. Kyle Weatherly was responsible for the other three runs.
Great Lakes 7 Lansing 6
Sean Wymer gave up five runs in the third and two more in the fifth. He lasted 4.1 innings with seven runs allowed, his ERA is now 8.79. Jackson Rees followed in relief and he pitched 3.2 shutout innings with five K's.
Reggie Pruitt scored three runs even though he had just one hit and one walk. He also stole three bases. Tanner Kirwer had two hits and a walk. Otto Lopez had two hits, Gabe Moreno was 1-2 with two RBI.
