Nate Pearson needs innings, but gosh darn does he look like a pitching prospect. He pitched five innings of shutout baseball, striking out nine, walking none and, so as not discourage the competition, allowed one person to reach safely via bat. Please see Sportsnet for Vladdy Jr. highlights.
Buffalo Bisons
Buffalo played three times over the weekend and lost all three. Sean Reid-Foley pitched just two and a third Friday in relief of Ryan Tepera’s rehab stint. On Saturday an old face to these parts, Drew Hutchison threw six shutout innings. Bo Bichette tallied his first homer of the year. David Paulino was roughed up Sunday as Vladdy Jr. collected three hits and Cavan Biggio two. For all the prospect power in Buffalo, the Bisons are 2-8 on the young season.
New Hampshire Fisher Cats
New Hampshire won one and lost two. Italian born Alberto Mineo had five hits over the weekend and Kevin Smith continues to adjust to AA pitching. He’s struck out twelve times in nine games, including a few times over the weekend. Early going this year, but the New Hampshire team feels a lot like the Dunedin team of last year, not a lot of prospect draw outside of Smith.
Dunedin Blue Jays
Dunedin won two and lost one. Kevin Vicuna had three hits in Friday’s win. Those three hits saw Vicuna propelled to the top of the order Saturday where he had a hit in the lone loss of the weekend. Vicuna hit leadoff again Sunday where he again hit safely once. I’m not sure what compelled the Jays to draft Logan Warmoth, but whatever affliction our amateur scouts may have had clearly is spreading to our development staff. Warmoth hit third twice over the weekend. He did hit his fourth homerun in 134 minor league games Sunday to bump his OPS up to .514 on the season. Nate Pearson it should be noted pitched five innings of shutout baseball Sunday, striking out nine to no walks and a solitary hit.
Lansing Lugnuts
Lansing split the two games they did play on the weekend. Sunday’s tussle was rescheduled due to rain. Jordan Groshans looks like he can flat out hit. He had his first homer of the season as part of a two-hit weekend. He’s up to a .346 batting average on the season.
