We hope everyone is enjoying their respective provincial holidays! A generally productive weekend from our affiliates as a number of new faces begin familiarizing themselves to us.
Buffalo Bisons
Buffalo was rained out Friday, split their doubleheader Saturday, and rallied in the ninth to win Sunday. Notable performances in Saturday’s win include Richard Urena’s two hits, one of which went deep and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s two hits and two walks. On Sunday, Rowdy Tellez homered as part of a two-hit day. Tellez also walked in the contest. Tellez has been on a tear of late with his line now reading .272/.344/.437. Tellez also went public with his mom’s cancer struggles a couple days ago. From all of us here at Da Box, Rowdy, we’re pulling for your mom!
New Hampshire Fisher Cats
Much like Buffalo New Hampshire faced rain Friday, split their doubleheader Saturday, and won their game Sunday in the ninth. In Saturday’s win Bo Bichette had two hits and Gunnar Heidt homered. Josh DeGraaf pitched five innings of two-run baseball (one earned). Cavan Biggio and Harold Ramirez had two hits apiece in Saturday’s loss while Hector Perez started his Blue Jays’ career with five innings of two-run baseball. Perez struck out seven, but walked four. I suppose the hope will be that the ghost of Mel Queen will turn those walks into strikes on the black. Jon Berti hit an inside-the-park walk off homerun Sunday. Forest Wall was a homerun away from a cycle in one of his better games since joining the organization.
Dunedin Blue Jays
Dunedin too faced weather on Friday, decided to play just the one Saturday—which they won, and ran out fourteen-nine winners Sunday. Riley Adams was four-for-four Saturday. Adams also threw out a would-be base-stealer. The game was reportedly “saved” in the ninth by a bases-loaded sliding grab by centerfielder Joshua Palacios. Twenty-one hits on Sunday as all but Nash Knight got in on the action. Suffice to say that a number of players “had a day.” The D-Jays in fact were down nine-one at one point and scored thirteen unanswered.
Lansing Lugnuts
Lansing avoided the weather that plagued the aforementioned affiliates Friday, though they may have wished otherwise. Lansing lost in heartbreaking fashion in extras Friday, but rallied to win on both Saturday and Sunday. Jordan Barrett pitched seven innings of two-run baseball in Friday’s loss. Chavez Young and Ryan Noda homered Saturday, while Chad Spanberger and Andres Sotillo homered Sunday.
Vancouver Canadians
Vancouver won all three games this past weekend. Compliments go to the Canadians pitching staff as the first runs yielded over the weekend were not until Sunday’s second inning. Randy Pondler led the way Friday with six shutout innings of work. On Saturday it was Josh Winckowski, who pitched six shutout innings himself. The Canadians without Griffin Conine are relatively devoid of hitting prospects though Jesus Severino and Otto Lopez are doing their part. Both had two hits Friday with Severino adding another Saturday and Lopez adding three more Sunday.
Bluefield Blue Jays
Bluefield were rained out Friday, split their games Saturday, and lost Sunday. Saturday’s win featured five shutout innings from Eric Pardinho while Saturday’s loss saw five innings of one-run baseball from Claudio Galva. Cal Stevenson had five hits across the three games.
GCL Blue Jays
The GCL squad lost both their games this weekend. Friday’s loss was a walk-off to the dreaded Yankees West team whereas Saturday’s loss was to the less dreaded Pirates affiliate. Jordan Groshans was absent for both games and Addison Barger was hitless for both.
DSL Blue Jays
The DSL squad won their Friday/Saturday games this weekend. The DSL generally does not play games Sunday. Miguel Hiraldo collected two hits across the two games.
