New Hampshire lost some offense when Vlad Guerrero was promoted, or have they? In the last four games the Fisher Cats have scored 45 runs with 14 coming on Wednesday. Cavan Biggio and Bo Bichette had big games. Buffalo split a doubleheader, Sean Reid-Foley pitched well, Danny Jansen homered. Dunedin won, Kevin Smith homered. Lansing won, Ryan Noda went deep twice. The GCL Jays split a doubleheader. Bluefield and the DSL team were rained out. Vancouver were walked off.
Buffalo
Buffalo played a doubleheader and split it. In game one Sean Reid-Foley took the loss because of a solo home run in the sixth inning. That was it for scoring. SRD went 6.1, four hits, three walks, six strikeouts. His ERA in July was 2.60, almost the same as June. But in July he lowered his WHIP to .89 from 1.25. This start continued his two months of pitching well. Rowdy Tellez was 2-2 with a walk. The Bisons hit into three double plays, Danny Jansen hit into two. Vlad Guerrero was 1-3 with two strikeouts.
Buffalo won game two 3-2. Jonathan Davis hit his first AAA home run. Davis is hanging on to his .300 average. Danny Jansen had the big hit, a two run home run. Rowdy Tellez had two more hits, four on the day. In July Tellez had a .911 OPS, a good sign on his way to re-establishing his prospect value. Reese McGuire also had two hits. Murphy Smith pitched five innings. Justin Shafer pitched the last two and had to endure a nervous seventh. He was helped in that inning when Billy McKinney threw out a runner at second, his second base kill of the game.
New Hampshire
It was a hit fest for New Hampshire on Wednesday. As a team they racked up 17 hits. Bo Bichette had three hits, two doubles. Cavan Biggio also had three hits, a double and two home runs with five RBI. That gives Biggio 23 home runs for the season. Forrest Wall also had three hits as did Andrew Guillotte. Harold Ramirez who has been hot, had an 0-3. Santiago Espinal got off to a slow start in AA, he was hitting .182 five games ago. Since then he has gone 9-16 to jump his average to .310.
Jon Harris was outstanding through five, wobbled and gave up three runs in the sixth, but came back out for the seventh. Harris has been inconsistent all year so it is hard to tell what this start means.
Dunedin
Dunedin won 4-3. The Jays had just six hits, Kevin Smith and Yeltsin Gudino had two each. Smith delivered the big blow, a three run home run in the sixth inning to break up a 0-0 game. It was Smith's twentieth home run of the year between Lansing and Dunedin. Smith also has twenty steals this season. Per the Jays, Chad Mottola was the last Jay to do it, not exactly a ringing endorsement. The fourth run scored on a passed ball.
Connor Eller pitched six shutout innings with four hits allowed but only two strikeouts. Eller's ERA is down to 2.50 in over 50 innings in high A.
Lansing
Lansing won 10-3. Ryan Noda hit two home runs and drove in five runs. Reilly Johnson had two hits and Reggie Pruitt walked three times and scored two runs.
Kyle Weatherly gave up one run in five innings with three strikeouts. Matt Shannon went two shutout innings, with three strikeouts.
Vancouver
Rob Fai, the C's radio voice, had a good summary of this game. There is something about the Hillsboro Hops and Vancouver Canadians that makes you wish they could play each other all 76 times during the regular season, and Wednesday's thriller to open a five-game series down in Oregon was no exception. The Canadians, trailing 4-2 heading to the top of the 9th inning stunned Hillsboro with a three-run home run from Otto Lopez off a pitcher (Kai-Wei Lin) that had only given up one run all year. Then, in the bottom of the 9th inning, the Hops scored four times that included a three run walk-off home run from Will Gorman off a pitcher (Fitz Stadler) that hadn't given up a run the whole season! That was the kind of game Hillsboro and Vancouver offered up for the first of five out at Ron Tonkin Field. Vancouver are playing.
Other than that summary, Jake Brodt and Tanner Kirwer picked up a couple of hits each. Nick Allgeyer made the start but just went two innings.
Bluefield
Bluefield were rained out.
GCL Jays
The GCL Jays played a doubleheader and split, they won 5-3 in the first game and lost 6-5 in the second by coughing up the lead and a chance to sweep. In game one each team had six hits. Gabriel Moreno was 1-1 with a walk and a hit by pitch. But the offensive star was Joseph Reyes who had two doubles and three RBI. Adrian Ramos was 3-3 at the top of the order with two runs scored. It is nice to see some lesser known names feature in this report. Shawn Morimando started and pitched one inning. He is a 25 year old starter who has pitched in AAA for a couple of years now. He is from NY state so he could be a local boy headed to Buffalo. Juan Diaz, a normal starter, went five innings with eight K's. He did concede three runs.
In game two Joseph Reyes stayed hot with a two run home run. Wernel Valdez also hit a two run home run, his first of the year. Steward Berroa had three hits. Starter Anderson Nunez was average over three innings. Williams Moreno took the loss.
DSL Jays
The DSL Jays were rained out.
