Some excellent pitching this past weekend from the likes of Jordan Romano and Sean Reid-Foley mark your weekend MLU.
Buffalo Bisons
The Bisons faced off against the Durham Bulls this past weekend with our AAA affiliate coming out on top twice. The Bisons walked off Friday on a Rowdy Tellez sacrifice fly. Tellez had himself quite the weekend with two homeruns, a double, and two singles. Jonathan Davis has started out hot since his promotion and had three hits Friday and reportedly made an excellent catch in left field. Saturday’s loss featured the aforementioned two homeruns from Rowdy Tellez. Danny Jansen followed suit on Sunday with two homeruns of his own bringing his total to ten on the year. Sean Reid-Foley was also excellent on Sunday with six shutout innings. He struck out seven, walked one, and allowed just two hits.
New Hampshire Fisher Cats
New Hampshire, and more specifically, Jon Harris, took one on the chin Friday. The team bounced back Saturday with Jordan Romano throwing eight shutout innings. Romano walked none and allowed just three hits. Sunday was rained out.
Dunedin Blue Jays
Dunedin won both their scheduled games this past weekend. On Friday, Brock Lundquist hit a walk off two-run homerun. Nash Knight also homered. Roberto Osuna pitched an inning of baseball. On Saturday, Rordigo Orozco was a perfect four-for-four at the plate. Patrick Murphy was solid on the mound pitching six innings of two-run baseball.
Lansing Lugnuts
Lansing dropped all three games played this past weekend. Ryan Noda’s two hits were the highlight Friday. On Saturday, it was Ryan Gold’s two hits. Sunday was much the same though two Lugnuts registered multi-hit games as Gold homered as part of a two-hit day and Samad Taylor had two hits.
Vancouver Canadians
Vancouver were winners Saturday and Sunday. Friday not so much. The Canadians lost 10-1 Friday. Bryan Lizardo had three hits. Jose Espada pitched six innings of two-run baseball in the win Saturday. Sunday’s win was a team effort. All batsman had a hit with Nick Podkul homering.
Bluefield Blue Jays
Bluefield swept their weekend games. Alejandro Kirk homered on Friday. Kirk seems an interesting one. His stat line with the bat is impressive for a nineteen year-old. He doesn’t seem to have a position though and his registered as a DH (though I note that he caught Saturday’s game). At 5’9, 220 as a nineteen year-old—one may feel he’ll be athletically restricted to just a few spots out there. Eric Pardinho pitched three shutout innings Sunday. He struck out five. Cal Stevenson had seven hits over the weekend.
GCL Blue Jays
Just the one game Saturday for the GCL squad. They lost 4-1. Jordan Groshans had a hit and a walk.
DSL Blue Jays
Miguel Hiraldo has simmered down since his hot start to professional baseball. He collected two hits over the two games played this past weekend by the DSL squad. Righty Ronald Govea also looks one to watch for down the line. Govea pitched four innings of one-run baseball Friday and has maintained a sub-one ERA so far in professional baseball.
