Vancouver are playing Eugene in a best of five championship series. Games one and two are in Eugene and then the last three in Vancouver. Game two is Sunday with game three Monday in Vancouver. There is one catch, a ten hour bus ride. Hopefully the C's left Nate Pearson in Vancouver to be rested for Monday night. This will be a live blog of game two.
Vancouver won game one 7-5 despite out hitting Eugene 12-3. The C's used Nate Pearson and Zach Logue to win the first round of the playoffs so it was Juan Nunez starting on Saturday. He was pulled in the third inning having given up four runs. The bullpen was excellent with Brayden Bouchey and Orlando Pascual handing the last five innings and only allowing one hit. Chavez Young homered and he, Clemens, Lundquist and Warmoth each had two hits.
Jose Espada got the start and the C's rely on him to go a long way. The best bullpen arms were used to nail down Saturdays win so the second tier of bullpen arms would be on duty on Sunday. Espada did not get off to a good start. The second hitter singled and the third homered. Two more singles and a steal made it a 3-0 game after one.
As mentioned above the C's had 12 hits in Saturdays game. The only starter without a hit was Reggie Pruitt. So of course Pruitt triples in the second innings with two walks on base to narrow the deficit to 3-2. Espada was better in the second inning, just a walk but the Jays were three up three down in the top of the third.
Reggie Pruitt giveth and Reggie Pruitt taketh away. Pruitt came to the plate in the fourth with the bases loaded on a single (Lundquist), an error and a walk. There was one out so Reggie grounds into a double play. The C's are getting chances, they need to take another one.
Espada shuts down Eugene in the bottom of the fourth. The C's just get a walk from Obeso in the top of the fifth. It was a lead off walk but Obeso never moved off first.
Eugene picked up anextra run in the fifth. a bunt single, a walk and a second single made it a 4-2 game. Espada was pulled with two outs, his line was 4.2 6 4 4 1 4. He was replaced by Marcus Reyes.
Reyes concedes a single but Riley Adams throws him out attempting to steal. Reyes faced just two hitters, he was replaced by Dany Jimenez. The Jays could get no-one on base in the top of the sixth. Six innings in the books it's still a 4-2 game. The C's are being out-hit 8-2. It's a reversal of Saturdays game, so far.
The C's had another three up, three down inning in the seventh. Grayson Huffman pitched the seventh, walked the lead off hitter but then did get the next three outs. It's still 4-2 with six outs left for Vancouver.
Three swinging strikeouts for the C's in the eighth. The starting pitcher for Eugene was Brendon Little, the Cubs first round pick. Vancouver scored their two runs off him and he was pulled after two innings. His replacement was Javier Assad, a 20 year old from Mexico. Assad has been outstanding, six innings, one hit, two walks and nine K's. Meanwhile Huffman had a three up, three down eighth. Its the last chance for the C's.
Assad is done after six innings. Hope for Vancouver!
Lead off double by Lundquist. Tying run at the plate, its Samad Taylor.
Taylor flies out, Lundquist to third. But his run doesn't really matter.
Cam O'Brien pinch hits but grounds out. Lundquist does not score. Down to their final out.
Chavez Young flies out. Game over, 4-2. Series tied so now its a best of three. Nate Pearson pitches tomorrow.
