The Bluefield Jays and the Pulaski Yankees are tied 1-1 in their best of three playoff semi-final. The winner take all game is tonight. Dunedin, Vancouver and the GCL Jays have finished their regular seasons. Vancouver and Dunedin are in the playoffs and will play Tuesday. For the three teams playing on Monday, Buffalo, New Hampshire and Lansing, their seasons will end on Monday.
Buffalo
Buffalo were 1-1 this weekend with a Sunday rainout. The rainout was likely welcome as on Friday the Jays called up Luis Santos and designated Nick Tepesch. They were Buffalo's scheduled starters for Sunday and Monday. On Friday four pitchers combined on a shutout. Chris Rowley and Chad Girodo each pitched three shutout innings with just one hit allowed.
Anthony Alford was 2-5 and 1-3 in his AAA debut. On Friday Dwight Smith had two hits and three RBI. Jason Leblebijian started the season hitting well. He has decided to finish well too. In two games he was 1-2 with two walks and 4-4. x
New Hampshire
The Fisher Cats are playing out the string and lost both their games. They too were rained out on Sunday. Several of their better hitters are now gone, Richard Urena and Anthony Alford are in the majors and AAA. They had few hits over the weekend and no extra base hits.
Jon Harris started Friday and gave up five runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings. He didn't walk anyone and struck out six. Thomas Pannone started on Saturday and had his best start, seven innings, one run, three hits, seven K's.
Dunedin
The D-Jays won two and lost one. On Friday the Jays won despite having just three hits. One of those was a home run by Bo Bichette. The star was Conor Fisk who just allowed an unearned run in 6.1 innings.
Dunedin won 6-0 on Saturday. Juan Kelly hit a three run home run. TJ Zeuch pitched four shutout innings as he works his way back from injury.
The Jays lost their last regular season game on Sunday. Patrick Murphy gave up three runs in 5.2 innings.
As the FSL season ends Vlad Jr finishes with a .333 batting average and a .948 OPS in the FSL. Bo Bichette has a .323 Ba and a 843 OPS>
Lansing
Lansing lost all three games, on Friday they conceded the winning run in the seventh, on Saturday they allowed runs in the seventh and in the ninth to tie the game and then a run in the tenth to lose. And on Sunday they conceded the tying run in the eighth and the winning run in the ninth. Poor pitching is the theme of the second half in Lansing. The starting pitching was decent, Juliandry Higuera, Dalton Rodriguez and Yonardo Herdenez kept Lansing in the game only for the bullpen to blow up.
Rodrigo Orozco is finishing well with two hits in all three games. Yeltsin Gudino hit in all three games. David Jacob and Mitch Nay both homered on Saturday and added two hits on Sunday.
Vancouver
The C's pitchers delivered shutouts on Friday and Saturday. Brody Rodning went five shutout innings. On Saturday Justin Dillon and Zach Logue each pitched an inning before Jose Espada took over to pitch six innings of two hit ball. It was his best start of the season. On Sunday the C's used seven pitchers to get everyone ready for the playoffs with no pitcher pitching more than two innings. Vancouver won 5-0 to finish the season with three straight shutouts.
On Friday Norberto Obeso, Logan Warmoth and Kacy Clemens each had two hits. On Saturday Brock Lundquist was 3-3 with a double and a home run.
Bluefield
The playoffs started on Saturday for the Jays. In game one the Jays took a 4-0 lead, then a 5-4 lead before scoring a run in the seventh to win 6-5. Ryan Gold doubled in the winning run in the seventh to add to a two run home run he hit in the second inning. Chavez Young led off the game with a home run and added a second hit.
The Yankees jumped out to a 6-0 lead on Sunday before the Jays made it close at 6-4. Randy Pondler started and went five innings, allowing three runs. He was followed by Elio Silva who pitched four innings and gave up a three run home run. Chavez Young and Ryan Gold added two more hits each. Anthony Fuentes went 3-4 with a double and a home run.
GCL Blue Jays
The GCL Jays won on Friday, Otto Lopez was 3-3 with two walks, Luis De Los Santos was 2-4. Matthew Gunter pitched six shutout innings.
The Jays were shutout 5-0 in their final game. Jose Theran had two hits.
