After giving up runs in his last three outings, Chad Girodo bounced back with three shutout frames in relief of Cesar Valdez. Matt Dermody has put together a string of eight scoreless outings after throwing a perfect eighth inning to gain his second win of the season. Murphy Smith got his second save with a one-walk ninth.Roemon Fields extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a triple. Raffy Lopez clubbed his third homer with the Herd and enjoyed his second straight multi-hit game. Jonathan Diaz had two hits and a walk. Dwight Smith Jr. singled and Rowdy Tellez was plunked.
New Hampshire Fisher Cats
Sean Reid-Foley put up five shutout innings but he lost his mojo in the sixth by walking two batters and giving up a double to load up the bases with nobody out. Dusty Isaacs could only strand one of his runners. Reid-Foley walked three and struck out three while inducing six groundouts. He retired eight of nine at one point and picked off Yankees prospect Gleyber Torres at second base. Torres got his revenge by belting a two-run dinger off Chris Rowley, who took the loss.
Danny Jansen threw out Torres trying to steal second in his first half-inning at Double-A and had a base hit in four at-bats. Harold Ramirez pushed his hitting streak to seven with his third home run of the season. Gunnar Heidt had a double among his two hits and is hitting .353 in his last 10 games. Anthony Alford walked twice. Richard Urena and Ryan McBroom were a combined 0-for-8.
Dunedin Blue Jays
A frustrating outing for Angel Perdomo as he continues to walk too many batters with a BB/9 rate of 5.5. He was greeted by a leadoff triple that eventually scored on a groundout in the first inning. He gave up three more runs in the fifth on four singles, three of them classified as ground ball base hits and the other on a soft line drive. He struck out three and produced seven groundball outs. William Ouelette made his season debut with two innings of one-run ball on a hit and two walks while striking three. The 6-foot-1 righty from Fullerton, California was a free-agent signing out of Cal State-San Bernardino last summer and went 1-0 with a 3.22 ERA with the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays.
The D-Jays offence was no-hit by Jose De Leon over five innings with Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Almonte the only ones to reach base via the walk. Tulo was 0-for-2 as the DH. Andrew Guillotte had two of the Jays four hits to give him three straight multi-hit games, going 7-for-12 in that span. Mike Reeves singled in the only run in his return from New Hampshire.
Lansing Lugnuts
Jake Thomas has drawn 30 walks in 22 games. Nick Sinay had three hits, including a double and a single. Josh Palacios had two hits and a walk while Bradley Jones doubled. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a walk but Bo Bichette was 0-for-4 while Edward Olivares went 0-for-5.
Geno Encina struck out three over three innings but gave up two runs on six hits (including a homer) to see his ERA go up to 1.14. Nick Hartman put up two scoreless frames.
