Three of the hottest teams in the system stayed hot. Dunedin won again with good all round performances including Richard Urena and Jonathan Davis. The GCL Jays took flight in the ninth inning starting with a big triple by Bo Bichette. Wilfri Aleton pitched well again. Bluefield won to take first place in their division. Vlad Jr had a couple more hits. New Hampshire also won with Taylor Cole leading the way. Lansing lost in the ninth inning while Buffalo and Vancouver were hammered.
Buffalo 0 Scranton 10
Scranton racked up 17 hits off four Bisons pitchers. John Anderson took most of the damage, nine hits and three walks in just 2.1 innings. Bobby Korecky gave up a couple of runs too.
Buffalo had just two hits off Scranton starter Dietrick Enns. His ERA is down to 0.70.
Portland 1 New Hampshire 6
Taylor Cole delivered his best start of the season, one solo home run among four hits over eight innings. He also had eight K's. Wil Browning had a 1-2-3 ninth.
Roemen Fields scored the first run in the first inning. He singled and scored when yesterdays hero, Derrick Loveless, doubled. New Hampshire added two in the second. Ian Parmley walked, Jorge Flores doubled and the speedy Parmley scored. Christian Lopes singled to make it 3-0. Flores also drove in the fourth run. Then with Flores at first and Parmley at third, Flores was picked off but got in a rundown. That gave Parmley the opportunity to scamper home with the fifth run. An Emilio Guerrero sac fly scored the sixth run. Flores, Loveless and Guerrero each had two hits.
Dunedin 6 Brevard County 4
The Jays have been on fire since the second half started. On Wednesday they racked up 13 hits. Only Andrew Guillotte didn't get one, he hasn't figured out the FSL yet since his promotion last week. A couple of the usual suspects, Richard Urena and Jonathan Davis had a couple of hits, including a double each. Ryan McBroom, Gunnar Heidt and Dickie Thon also had a couple of hits.
Conor Fisk pitched six innings, a good start for him. He gave up three runs, two earned, on seven hits. He also had seven K's. Four relievers covered the last three innings.
Dayton 4 Lansing 3
This game went to the ninth inning tied at three. Josh DeGraaf let the first two hitters reach, first with a line drive and then a soft fly ball. A sac bunt moved the runners up and then a ground ball to Juan Kelly at first set up a play at the plate. But the runner beat the throw home and that was the winning run. Jon Harris started and went seven innings. He did concede three runs, two of which were earned. Harris had eight K's and didn't walk anyone.
Second baseman John LaPrise scored two runs. He doubled in the first inning and scored on an error. He scored on an error again in the fifth, this time after he singled. Connor Panas was the hitter who reached on the error both times LaPrise scored. He scored the second run when Ryan Hissey singled. Carl Wise and Juan Tejada also had two hits each.
Vancouver 4 Salem 16
The Canadians were down 7-0 before they scored. Patrick Murphy started and took the loss even though all three runs off him were unearned. He did walk the lead off hitter in the second, but then an error by yeltsin Gudino and a passed ball moved the runners up. Murphy did get two outs but then single, single, double led to three runs. Matt Smoral came out for the fourth and was awful. He started walk, wild pitch, hit by pitch. A couple of singles followed, then another hit batter, and another walk and Smoral was pulled. He was charged with four runs. Vancouver benefited from some poor pitching too. The Salem pitcher walked the bases full in the fifth. a single by Gudino and a ground out scored two. Grayson Huffman then got lit up like a Christmas candle for seven runs in the sixth. Vancouver's last two runs came in the ninth. A lead off single was followed by an error and four walks. Only half of the runs in the game were earned. And there were 13 walks issued combined. It made for a brisk 3 hour 36 minute game.
The only player of mention in the game for Vancouver was Lance Jones who had 50% of the teams hits. Jones was 3-4 with a walk.
Danville 2 Bluefield 6
The Jays scored three runs in the second inning. They loaded the bases with a single from Edward Olivares, a double by Nash Knight and a walk to Matt Morgan. Jesus Severino scored one with a sac fly then Kalik May doubled in two more. The Jays loaded the bases again in the third on three single and the run scored on a ground ball by Morgan. The last two runs came in the eighth. Nick Sinay doubled in two after Danville walked the bases full. Olivares and Vlad Guerrero Jr had two hits each. Vlad Jr got off to a tough start in Bluefield but he has two hits in each of the last three games, raising his Ba from .154 to .231.
Denis Diaz started and went five innings. he allowed just one hit, and one run. He K'd two. Connor Eller pitched the last four, again allowing one run, this time on three hits. He punched out five without a walk.
GCL Blue Jays 6 GCL Yankees East 1
Entering the ninth inning the Jays had just two hits. One of them was a solo home run from David Jacob that tied the game at one. The Jays blew it open in the ninth. Bo Bichette tripled in a run, Manuel Herazo doubled in Bichette, Francisco Rodriguez singled in Herazo and then Antony Fuentes hit a two run home run. 1-1 became 6-1 in a half inning. The Jays finished with six hits, one less than the Yankees.
Wilfri Aleton went six innings, didn't walk anyone and punched out seven. The Yankees had six hits off Aleton and bunched a double and a single in the third inning for their only run. Aleton is 20 and now has 21 K's in 15 innings. He has walked just three. Orlando Pascual worked two innings for the save.
