Three of the four games went to extra innings with the affiliates going 2-1 in the extra inning games. Jio Mier hit a home run to give Buffalo the win. Ryan Hissey delivered the walk-off hit for Lansing. New Hampshire lost to a walk-off hit. Vancouver had an easy win while Dunedin had their all-star break.
Buffalo 5 Lehigh Valley 3 - 10 innings
Jio Mier hit a two run home run in the top of the tenth to give Buffalo the win. The other hitter with a big day was Andy Burns who went 3-4 with a double and a home run, a solo shot.
Wade LeBlanc was not at his efficient best, he had ten hits allowed in six innings but he didn't walk anyone and kept the damage to three runs. Aaron Loup pitched the ninth to get the win, Dustin Antolin the tenth for the save.
New Hampshire 1 Akron 2 - 10 innings
Jason Berken has been a starter and a reliever for the Fisher Cats. On Sunday he came on to start the seventh and through three innings he faced the minimum. He did give up two hits but a pick off and a double play kept it to nine up and nine down. He gave up his third single to start the tenth and Matt Dermody was called on. Jordan Smith from Akron tripled to end the game and give Berken the hard luck loss. Casey Lawrence had started and he pitched very well, just four hits in six innings with nine K's.
New Hampshire's only run came in the second inning, Roemen Fields singled in Wilkin Castillo. Fields was the only hitter with a multi hit game. NH had just six hits, five singles and Castillo's double.
Dunedin - All-Star Break
West Michigan 4 Lansing 5 - 11 innings
Lansing finished their first half with a walk off win. Jake Thomas led off the bottom of the eleventh with a single against Jordan Smith, taking second on a wild pitch. Max Pentecost struck out looking before Hissey launched a walk-off double. It was not a good day for the pitchers, the two teams combined for 24 hits. Hissey and Ryan Metzler each had three hits. Thomas had two and scored twice.
Four Lansing pitchers each conceded a run. For Jordan Romano, the starter, that was good, one run on five hits in five innings. Romano had seven K's. Starlyn Suriel, Danny Young and Dusty Isaacs each allowed a run in relief. Josh DeGraaf got the win with two innings of shutout relief.
Vancouver 8 Spokane 1
Vancouver outhit Spokane by only one, 12-11. However Vancouver had 23 at-bats with RISP while Spokane had only 8. Spokane's five errors did not help their cause. Lance Jones led the offense with 4 RBI off a 3-6 day. Bryan Lizardo also had three hits, he was 3-5 with a double and a walk.
Juliandry Higuera started and went five innings with just the one run allowed. However there were seven hits off him and he added three walks. Four relievers pitched an inning each.
The Canadians were shutout on Saturday. Dalton Rodriguez, Matt Smoral and Grayson Huffman each conceded runs. Gabe Noyalis was the only pitcher to escape unscathed. For Lansing Ryan Metzler had three more hits. Jon Harris allowed two runs in 6.1 innings. The demotion didn't work well; for Scott Diamond, 14 hits allowed in 5 innings. Drew Hutchison pitched six shutout innings in the other game of the doubleheader. Dalton Pompey has gone on the DL with a concussion.
On Friday Shane Dawson and Tom Robson both had rough starts. The best starter of the day was Justin Maese who pitched five innings of two hit ball in Vancouver's season opener.
