Is it OK to bunt to break up a no-hitter? Ian Parmley did that in the sixth inning. Having been no hit in the previous game it was the 15th no hit inning for New Hampshire over two days. It didn't help as the Fisher Cats lost and had just two hits. Buffalo enjoyed a walk off with Domonic Brown driving in the winning run. Lansing had a shutout win behind strong pitching by Angel Perdomo. Dunedin lost easily.
Rochester 1 Buffalo 2
Domonic Brown hit a walk-off single into left centre field to score Jon Berti with the winning run in the tenth inning. David Adams had led off the tenth with a long single before Berti ran for him. Berti stole second to put him in scoring position. That was Brown's second hit of the day. Andy Burns led the offense with three hits. Casey Kotchman also had two, but one of them was a game tying home run hit in the bottom of the seventh. Dalton Pompey was 0-4. It must be tough to establish a hitting rhythm when you are in and out of the lineup with minor injuries.
Roberto Hernandez made his first start of the season for the Bisons. He just went four innings but they were four shutout innings. Hernandez had just the one strikeout. Another Bisons newbie Arnold Leon followed and went four innings as well. Leon allowed three consecutive hits, and a run, in his first inning but then settled down to retire ten in a row. Leon punched out six. Dustin Antolin pitched the last two innings and picked up the win.
New Hampshire 0 Trenton 1
New Hampshire were no-hit on Tuesday and continued to keep their bats safe from harm into the sixth inning on Wednesday. With one out Ian Parmley bunted to the pitcher and made it to first to break up the no-no. Reports don't indicate if there were any old timers in attendance who did not approve. Parmley stole second but was stranded. Trenton had just taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth with a walk and a triple. The Fisher Cats had a big chance in the seventh. Rowdy Tellez walked and Melky Mesa followed with a double putting runners at second and third with no outs. KC Hobson was next up. Hobson grounded to the bag at first, the first baseman was able to step on the bag and throw to second for the double play. Tellez stayed at third. Matt Dean grounded out to end the threat and New Hampshire did not have another base runner.
Casey Lawrence started having just been sent back down from AAA. Lawrence generally pitches very well in AA but poorly in AAA, and this game added to that history. Lawrence went seven innings and did give up the only run on four hits. Danny Barnes and Colt Hynes combined in the eighth inning.
Tampa 6 Dunedin 1
The Jays trailed 6-0 in the second and with only five hits they couldn't get back into the game. The starter was local boy, and free agent, Kyle Westwood. He lasted five innings but wasn't fooling anyone, he gave up 11 hits. Alonzo Gonzalez, Adonys Cardona and Matt Dermody held Tampa at bay.
Dickie Thon was the only Jay with two hits. As a sign of the night that it was, the Jays only run came on a double play.
Lansing 6 Beloit 0
Angel Perdomo dominated over five innings. It was his fourth start and the first one where he didn't allow a run. Perdomo notched up seven K's and allowed three hits. Juan Pierre made his first appearance for the Lugnuts and pitched an inning. Starlyn Suriel pitched the last three innings without allowing a hit.
Juan Kelly got the Luggies started with a two run double. Ryan Hissey singled him home to make it a 3-0 game. Hissey led off the sixth with a double. A walk put two on and an error by the center fielder let both runners score. JC Cardenas singled to make it 6-0. Lansing scored six runs on seven hits. Hissey and Andrew Guillotte had two hits each.
