Syracuse, NY - The top of the order got the job done for the Herd in this one. Dalton Pompey began the game with a base hit up the middle, moved to second on an Andy Burns single to center, advanced to third on a Domonic Brown grounder to short and scored on a Jesus Montero sacrifice fly to the middle of the outfield grass. Pompey would score again in the third when he walked before scampering home on a Burns double. Matt Dominguez had the other two Buffalo hits.Chris Leroux threw a one-hitter over four scoreless frames but walked five with only one strikeout. Six of his seven outs in play were on the ground. Chad Girodo (1-0) struck out a pair over two shutout innings before David Aardsma tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save.
Syracuse 4 Buffalo 3 (Game 2 - 7 innings)
Syracuse, NY - The Nationals affiliate came away with a split by leaving the potential tying run 90 feet away. Dalton Pompey laid down a bunt single in the bottom of the seventh and made it into scoring position after a throwing error by the catcher. The Mississauga native reached third on a groundout but Domonic Brown fouled out to end the game. Matt Dominguez drove home two runs without a hit, bringing home a Junior Lake triple in the second on a sac fly before driving in a Domonic Brown single with a ground ball to the mound in the sixth. Humberto Quintero had an RBI double to score a David Adams walk in the fifth. Pompey had a three-hit game and stole his first base of the year. Jesus Montero had a couple of hits. Adams walked all three times he was up at the plate.
Casey Lawrence (0-1, 9.00) gave up three runs on eight hits over three frames with a 0-0 K/BB total. Chad Jenkins coughed up the other run, walking three over 1-2/3 innings. Ben Rowen's line had a trio of twos in the hit, walk and strikeout columns but he did not give up a run over his 1-1/3 inning stint.

Manchester, NH - Canadian lefty Shane Dawson (1-0, 0.00) outdueled Rockies 2014 first-round pick Kyle Freeland by scattering three hits over five innings while striking out four. Five of his seven outs in play were on the grass and 51 of his 71 pitches were strikes. Brady Dragmire whiffed one over two perfect frames and Colt Hynes struck out three on his way to recording the final six outs.The Fisher Cats got the only run they would need in the first inning when Rowdy Tellez doubled home a double by Jon Berti. Tellez would bring home Berti again with a deep fly ball after Berti singled and stole second and third in the sixth. Matt Dean provided another insurance run with his first Double-A home run in the seventh. Berti would score a third time after walking, stealing second and scoring on a Melky Mesa base rap in the eighth. Roemon Fields tied Berti in the hit column with a couple of knocks.
St. Lucie 1 Dunedin 0
Port St. Lucie, FL - Conner Greene (0-1, 2.70) kept the Mets off the board over the first five innings but a leadoff triple in the sixth and a throwing error by Richard Urena at short produced the game's only run. Greene scattered five hits and two walks to go along with a pair of K's and eight groundball outs. Alonzo Gonzalez tossed two scoreless innings and Juliandry Higuera put up a zero in the eighth.
Ryan McBroom and D.J. Davis had the only hits for the D-Jays with McBroom also stealing a base. J.D. Davis walked twice and Urena got a free pass.
Lansing 5 Dayton 2
Lansing, MI - In spite of five errors, the Lugnuts still managed to knock off the Reds affiliate. Gunnar Heidt cleared the wall again for his second homer in as many days in the first inning before a J.C. Cardenas two-run double highlighted a three-run second. A Justin Atkinson ground ball scored a Heidt single in the fifth. Lane Thomas, Juan Kelly and Carl Wise had the other Lansing hits. Thomas also threw out a runner at third from center field. Heidt stole his second base of the year.Sean Reid-Foley surrendered two unearned runs on one hit over six innings while posting a 4-4 K/BB total. He retired 10 of 11 hitters at one point. Starlyn Suriel whiffed three over two shutout frames and Dusty Isaacs rung up a pair in the ninth for the save.
