Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet says the Blue Jays will be without second baseman Devon Travis for the first part of the 2016 season after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Sportsnet's Shi Davidi tweets the 24 year-old Travis had a pre-existing condition in his shoulder while Brendan Kennedy of The Toronto Star adds we may not see Travis back with the big club until June. The 5-foot-9 right-handed hitter was acquired just over a year ago in a deal with Detroit that sent outfielder Anthony Gose to the Motor City.
The Blue Jays will no doubt be looking to add to their middle infield depth, given also that Cliff Pennington has flown the coup to sign a free-agent deal with the Los Angeles Angels. Ryan Goins will be asked to fill in at second again for the time being.
