A splitsville Friday for the affiliates in their eight games. One game involved a steal of home for the winning run and Vancouver got a solid start and an even better finish from its pitchers.
Syracuse 8 Buffalo 2
Syracuse, NY - The Nationals affiliate gave a beatdown to Scott Copeland (9-4, 2.60) like the one Stewart Copeland would give to his drum set. Copeland was creamed for eight runs on 10 hits in 3-2/3 innings while whiffing four. All the runs came in the fourth inning. Bobby Korecky mopped up with 2-1/3 innings of shutout relief while Colt Hynes and Ben Rowen chipped in with one each.
Matt Hague gave the Bisons a brief 1-0 lead with a home run as part of a 4-for-4 night. Jon Berti had two hits while Dalton Pompey, Alex Hassan and Jon Diaz had the others. Pompey left the game for pinch-hitter Andy Burns in the seventh.
Erie 5 New Hampshire 4
Manchester, NH - The Fisher Cats built a 3-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run single by K.C. Hobson, but couldn't hold on against the Tigers affiliate. Ryan Schimpf homered in the eighth to make it a one-run game. Hobson and Schimpf had all the New Hampshire hits between them with Hobson getting three. Christian Lopes walked twice while Roemon Fields and Dwight Smith Jr. walked once. Fields also stole a base.
Casey Lawrence (11-11, 4.41) lasted 7-1/3 innings and gave up four runs among a homer and nine hits and did not walk or whiff anybody. Dustin Antolin gave up a solo dinger in 1-2/3 innings.
Dunedin 2 Brevard County 0
Viera, FL - Derrick Loveless provided the winning blast with a home run in the fourth inning and drove in the other run with a base hit. That gave Jeremy Gabryszwski (8-6, 3.49) all he needed as he spun a three-hitter and struck out six over seven shutout innings. Wil Browning allowed two hits but struck out three as well for the two-inning save, his 18th.
J.D. Davis had two hits and a stolen base while Matt Dean and Mike Reeves had doubles against the Brewers affiliate.
Kane County 12 Lansing 7 (7 Innings)
Geneva, IL - The Diamondbacks affiliate stuck it to Starlyn Suriel (8-7, 3.93) for seven runs on 10 hits and a walk over 3-1/3 innings while only whiffing twice. Colton Turner was spun around for another five runs (four earned) over 2-2/3 innings but Phil Kish pitched a shutout frame before the rain put a stop to this one.
Chris Carlson homered in the third inning to give Lansing a 2-0 lead and Ryan McBroom homered in the fourth to pull the Lugnuts to within one. McBroom and Alex Maldonado had two hits apiece. Juan Kelly had a double and an RBI, D.J. Davis had a single and Richard Urena lifted a sacrifice fly. Lane Thomas was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and made two errors at second base.
Vancouver 3 Hillsboro 0
Hillsboro, OR - Jon Harris enjoyed his best outing as a professional by putting together five shutout innings of four-hit ball, walking two and striking out four. Six of his nine outs in play were on the ground for a Game Score of 61. Angel Perdomo (1-0, 0.00) was even better in his C's debut, putting up four goose eggs on the linescore, walking one batter and striking our seven. He also had three groundball outs of the five in play.
Gunnar Heidt sacrifice bunted the winning run home in the seventh. Ryan Metzler and Ryan Hissey had RBI singles in the eighth. Sean Hurley had two hits, Hissey reached twice with a hit by pitch and Metzler also got aboard two times with a walk. Andrew Guillotte had a single and a stolen base.
Princeton 7 Bluefield 2
Princeton, WV - Dalton Rodriguez (2-6, 4.70) was ripped for four runs on eight hits, including a homer but walked nobody while striking out one. Jackson Lowery was on the hook for the other three runs but only one was unearned as Matt Morgan committed three of his four passed balls in the eighth. Lowery did strike out three in his 1-1/3 inning stint.
The Jays got their only runs in the seventh on a Rodrigo Orozco groundout and a wild pitch. Freddy Rodriguez had two hits, including a double while D.J. McKnight singled and walked twice while Orozco also heard ball four twice. Matt Morgan singled and scored. Deiferson Barreto also had a base hit.
GCL Blue Jays 3 GCL Braves 1
Lake Buena Vista, FL - The Jays got the winning run on a steal of home. Reggie Pruitt got on base with a walk and stole home after an error at first plated the first run. A Bryan Lizardo fielder's choice scored the final run in the eighth. Nash Knight had two hits and Jesus Severino had a pinch-hit single and a run scored. Lizardo and Andrew Florides managed to swipe a base.
Guadalupe Chavez (1-1, 3.00) chopped the Braves down to size with six shutout innings of three-hit ball and struck out three for a Game Score of 69. Kelyn Jose was clipped for a run on three hits but struck out two over two innings. Griffin Glaude got his fourth save by striking out the side in the ninth.
DSL Blue Jays 6 DSL Diamondbacks 3
Boca Chica, DR - For those keeping track, the Jays took the rubber game of their three-game set against the D-Backs affiliate with a five-run second inning. Walks by Jesus Navarro and Sterling Guzman, along with singles by Kevin Vicuna and Norberto Obeso with the bases loaded provided the first four runs and a Yorman Rodriguez fielder's choice accounted for the ffith. Navarro singled home the final run in the sixth. Obeso and Christian Peguero had two hits apiece with Peguero getting a double.
Jairo Rosario (2-3, 1.79) gave up an unearned run over six solid frames of two-hit, two-hit by pitch ball with one strikeout. Ruben "The Body" Ventura was rocked for two runs but struck out three in two innings. Dany Jimenez allowed a hit but struck out two for his first save.
