Clean sweep for the affiliates. Hooray! Andy Burns was clutch. Shane Opitz went deep and the Fisher Cats played defense. Dunedin hit the baseball and J.D. Davis had a big game in Lansing. Your affiliates were 4-0!
Toledo 4 BUFFALO 6
Brad Glenn and Melky Mesa bopped homers, Dalton Pompey had two hits and a stolen base at the top of the order, and Andy Burns had the go-ahead hit in the sixth with two outs.
Burns’ hit was particularly clutch according to the Bisons’ recap people. Burns came through after two batters before him failed to cash runners in scoring position. This act of heroics avoided a “hugged” missed opportunity. Andy says no to hugs.
NEW HAMPSHIRE 4 Binghamton 3
Taylor Cole was pretty good, Shane Opitz hit a rare homer, and the Fisher Cats turned a game-ending double play to win a close one. Cole went five and a third innings, allowing two earned on six hits and two walks. Cole struck out two batters. The Fisher Cats had only four hits on the night. Two of those hits resulted in runs. Opitz had a two-run homerun, as mentioned. Kevin Nolan had a run scoring single in the first and Berti produced sac fly in the seventh.
DUNEDIN 6 Fort Myers 3
Dunedin collected fourteen hits, on the other hand. Matt Dean and Dickie Joe Thon had three apiece. Dawel Lugo, Roemon Fields, and L.B. Dantzler had two each. Justin Shafer pitched five shutout innings, striking out three in the process. Other notables: Dawel Lugo logged a four pitch free pass (his third on the season) for an RBI. Dawel only walks for runs.
LANSING 8 South Bend 6
All-world J.D. Davis had a big night. Davis had three hits including a homer, a walk, four runs, three stolen bases, and made two impressive catches in right field (apparently). Ryan McBroom had three hits as well. On the mound, Starlyn Suriel pitched six and third innings of three hit baseball. He allowed one unearned run. J.D. Davis made the error. He was all over this box score.
