Daniel Norris recorded 17 outs and 13 of them were strikeouts. He dominated the Iron Pigs while the Bisons bats scored seven. New Hampshire scored seven too but they lost as Casey Lawrence had his second straight tough start against Akron. Ben White and Miguel Castro led Dunedin and Lansing to wins. Matt Smoral and Ryan Borucki combined on a three hit shutout for Vancouver. Bluefield also won while the GCL Jays were rained out.
Buffalo 7 Lehigh Valley 1
Daniel Norris cut through the Iron Pigs like a welding torch. Norris allowed three hits in 5.2 innings, one of them a triple that scored the only run off him. Eight of the K's were swinging, plus a ninth on a foul tip, four were looking for 13 total. Norris was pulled after 85 pitches.
The Bisones had 12 hits, three led to three runs in the third inning. Four led to 4 runs in the eighth. The only home run was a two run shot from Ryan Schimpf. Schimpf was one of five hitters with two hits. Kevin Pillar was not one of them as his hit streak ended.
Akron 9 New Hampshire 7
Akron had a 6-0 lead and New Hampshire were always behind in trying to catch up. Casey Lawrence had his second bad start in a row against Akron who scored seven off Casey in consecutive starts.
The Fisher Cats outhit Akron 13-12. Derrick Chung led the way with three hits including two doubles. Jon Berti, Melky Mesa and Kevin Nolan each had two hits.
Brevard County 1 Dunedin 4
Ben White was outstanding, a two hitter over seven innings. Danny Barnes and Arik Sikula finished up. Barnes is just back after six weeks on the DL.
Shane Opitz was in the middle of the early scoring. He scored the first run on a Dwight Smith single. Later he had an RBI triple and scored the third run. Nick Baligod also had two hits including a solo home run.
Lansing 6 South Bend 3
A five run third inning was the key for the Lugnuts. Five hits and two walks generated the five runs. Lansing had eight hits, distributed through the lineup. Mitch Nay was the only hitter with two.
Miguel Castro pitched six strong innings with just a little wildness. On the positive side Castro only gave up two hits and recorded 8 K's. He also walked four and had a couple of wild pitches. Joe Lovecchio pitched two shutout innings in his first Lugnut appearance.
Everett 0 Vancouver 4
Pitching was the name of the game. Matt Smoral had a shaky first appearance for Vancouver but on Friday we was excellent. Smoral pitched five innings, one hit, two walks, four K's. Smoral was followed by Ryan Borucki who pitched four shutout innings. Borucki conceded two hits, no walks and 3 K's. Combined the two pitchers pitched a three hitter with 7 K's.
Vancouver scored a run in the fifth, Gunnar Heidt doubled and Mike Reeves singled him home. The Canadians scored three more in the sxth helped by a couple of hit batters and an error. Roemen Fields and Ryan McBroom had singles.
Bluefield 4 Princeton 1
Richard Urena scored two runs. He singled to lead off the game and later scored on a wild pitch. He walked in the sixth, after Kevin Garcia singled. Austin Davis drove in a run, Urena scored on a DP, and the third run in that inning came on a Lane Thomas single.
Joey Aquino went five innings and gave up the one run. Jordan Romano, from Markham Ontario, pitched 2.2 shutout innings.
GCL Braves at GCL Blue Jays - Postponed
It has been a bad weather week in Florida. This is the second day with no baseball for the baby Jays.
