Miguel Castro dominated again but the game was scoreless until extra innings when Vancouver rallied to win. Buffalo had excellent pitching from Liam Hendricks and won easily. The GCL Jays won a slugfest with Gunnar Heidt racking up three hits. John Anderson, Taylor Cole and Jeremy Gabryszwski pitched well in losing efforts. Bluefield also lost making it a 3-4 day on the farm.
Lehigh Valley 2 Buffalo 5
-
Liam Hendricks pitched seven strong with 8 K's.
-
Steve Delabar pitched one innings but he did give up a home run and K'd two.
-
AJ Jimenez had one hit and is hitting .280 in AAA. His OPS is 693 and suggests he would be a slightly below average catcher in the major leagues, speaking offense. But he is still 24 and catchers can take longer because of all their other duties. We should see him in Toronto in September.
New Hampshire 0 Harrisburg 3
-
John Anderson made the start, his fifth since being promoted from the bullpen. As a starter Anderson has an ERA of 3.13 and has good numbers all around. Anderson has had numerous surgeries so he might not be a starter for long but he has pitched well this season.
-
Tyler Ybarra pitched the eighth. Ybarra has been a little disappointing this season mainly because of the walks, 29 in 51 innings. Ybarra had been considered a rule 5 candidate last winter but he wasn't selected. He could be a candidate again this winter but the walks suggest he would not be selected again.
-
Andy Burns had two hits but has settled down from his hot run. Over the last ten games he mostly goes two hits, zero hits and is hitting .289 over that spell.
Charlotte 6 Dunedin 1
-
Taylor Cole pitched 5.1 and racked up 9 more K's. The other seven outs were groundballs. Cole now has 143 K's in 114 innings.
-
Justin Jackson come on after Cole and immediately surrendered a triple and a home run. Jackson has a 4.22 ERA with a WHIP around 1.5. He has 39 K's in 42 innings. Those numbers are middling, not good enough to say he could handle the major leagues yet but not bad enough to give up on him.
-
Dwight Smith has been out for a few days, in his absence the best batting average on the team belongs to Gustavo Pierre at .264. Pierre had two hits yesterday.
Lansing 2 Burlington 3 - 14 innings
-
Jeremy Garyszwski pitched five innings with no K's. For the season he has 78 K's in 120 innings.
-
The bullpen trio of Brady Dragmire, Scott Silverstein and Phil Kish pitched eight shutout innings.
-
David Harris, Matt Dean and Dawel Lugo had two hits each.
Hillsboro 1 Vancouver 2 - 10 innings
-
Hillsboro scored their run in the top of the tenth, Vancouver scored two in the bottom. Chris Carlson and Michael De La Cruz drove in the runs.
-
Miguel Castro pitched six shutout innings, 3 hits, 8 K's. For July he made five starts with an ERA of 1, 27 IP, 18 H, 9 BB, 27 K. And he is still 19 and will be until Christmas eve.
-
Max Pentecost had two hits and is hitting .326. In his first stint at pro-ball he is up their swinging away, in 68 at-bats he has 2 walks and 8 K's.
Danville 6 Bluefield 3
-
Rowdy Tellez had two hits. Over his last ten games he is hitting .395 with an OPS over 1000. Tellez had a slow start to the season but has heated up in July.
-
Jansen had one hit but it was a home run. As a 19 year old playing a tough position Jansen had hit well with a season OPS of 881. He too is over 1000 with his OPS over his last ten games.
-
Richard Urena had one hit but that extended his hit streak to 20 games.
GCL Pirates 8 GCL Jays 9
-
Grayson Huffmaan started for the Jays. In 14 innings he has only given up 4 hits, but he has walked 8 with 12 K's. Huffman is just 19 and was drafted this year out of a junior college.
-
Gunnar Heidt played his fifth game. He had 3 hits, doubling his total for the season. One of Heidt's hits was a triple and he had 3 RBI.
-
Angel Gomez was 4-4 but at 22 years old is too old for the GCL. Gomez played in the GCL in 2010 and 2011 but missed 2012 and 2013.
