Not much winning on the farm tonight although the Dunedin squad clinch a playoff spot as the FSL North’s first half champion. The affiliates went 2-4.
Buffalo 0 Toledo 11
Colby Rasmus hit third and collected a hit and a walk and not much else happened for Buffalo tonight. I gather Sean Nolin is still getting back into the swing of things after some time off there in May. He did not come out to pitch the fourth after 66 pitches and four earned runs. Several Bisons collected multiple hits tonight including A.J. Jimenez and Ryan Goins. Aaron Sanchez, as mentioned in yesterday’s comments, has been promoted and we’ll hopefully get to see a bit more of what the kid can do. Go down to Buffalo, people! Tell us what you think!
New Hampshire 3 Bowie 8
Sergio Santos pitched in an inning tonight. Niuman Romero hit a homerun off him. I’ve spent ten minutes trying to pronounce Niuman. Is that a silent I? Anyways Ryan Schimpf, as he tends to do from time to time, had a day with two homeruns. Jack Murphy homered as well. Andy Burns had a hit and three strikeouts and has disappointed some with his performance this season. I had hopes of him pushing on to Buffalo at midseason.
Daytona 1 Dunedin 5 Game One
As mentioned by Gerry in the comments of last night’s MLU, Dunedin clinched the FSL North first half title with a win in this game. Someone in the Blue Jays organization will get to participate in playoff baseball this year. The Dunedin squad struck in the first and the fifth, scoring two and three runs respectively. Marcus Knecht drove in the dynamic duo of Dwight Smith Jr. and Dalton Pompey at the top of the order in the first. In the fifth, Knecht and K.C. Hobson homered and Peter Mooney collected an RBI single. On the mound, Matt Boyd pitched all seven innings, allowing just one earned run on two hits and two walks. It will interesting to see what the Jays do with Boyd if he continues to dominate the FSL
Daytona 2 Dunedin 5 Game Two
Another five-spot for Dunedin as Marcus Knecht featured prominently again in the boxscore by homering and collecting three RBIs. Daniel Norris continued his fantastic season to date by pitching five one hit—two walks—shutout innings. Promote the poor guy already!
Lansing 2 Fort Wayne 7
Matt Dean turned in three hits and Dickie Joe Thon had two himself and Lansing fell tonight.. The lack of timely hitting plagued Lansing as they stranded eleven base runners and were one for six with RISP. Shane Dawson goes tomorrow for Lansing.
DSL Braves 5 DSL Blue Jays 2
It doesn’t look like the Jays have sent any of their July 2 bonus babies to the DSL. In classic DSL fashion though, Jays SS Jesus Severino had four errors.
Three Stars
3. Ryan Schimpf/Marcus Knecht
2. Daniel Norris
1. Matt Boyd
