All four starters had excellent starts but only three of them got a win. Liam Hendricks and Daniel Norris pitched shutout ball for 5.2 and 6 innings respectively. Casey Lawrence and Kendall Graveman each allowed just one run. Lawrence was helped by Kevin Nolan who was 4-4 with a home run. Graveman was let down by the Lansing bullpen who coughed up his lead.
Pawtucket 2 Buffalo 3
Liim Hendriks was the star for Buffalo, he went 5.2 innings and only allowed one hit and no walks. Marcus Walden was tagged for a two run home run in the eighth. Chad Jenkins pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save.
The Bisons took a 1-0 lead in the third when Steve Tolleson singled to drive in Mike Nickeas. In the fourth Kevin Pillar tripled in a run and scored on a Jared Goedert single. The Bisons were held to six hits.
Binghamton 4 New Hampshire 9
I mentioned yesterday that the New Hampshire lineup had a lot of ugly averages so they responded on Saturday with 15 hits. Kevin Nolan was 4-4 including a three run home run to open the scoring. Ryan Schimpf also had a home run among his three hits. Brad Glenn, Peter Mooney and Andy Fermin each had two hits.
Casey Lawrence pitched six innings of five hit ball, one run allowed, to get the win. Tyler Ybarra and John Anderson finished up and both conceded runs.
Brevard County 2 Dunedin 4
Daniel Norris delivered six shutout innings, four hits, one walk, six K's. Chris King from Baseball Prospectus was at the game and said Norris battled his fastball command but was able to get through it. Danny Barnes does not appear to be back to normal after his year off, he gave up the two runs.
The Jays manufactured three runs in the second, Emilio Guerrero's double and Marcus Knecht's single were the only hits in the mix. The Jays added an insurance run in the seventh, KC Hobson singled in Dwight Smith who had walked. Hobson, Knecht and Dalton Pompey each had two hits.
Cedar Rapids 5 Lansing 3
Kendall Graveman pitched seven strong innings and left with a 3-1 lead. But the bullpen, looking at you Griffin Murphy, coughed up four runs. An error didn't help but Murphy was tagged for five hits in 2 innings. Graveman lost a win he should have had after limiting Cedar Rapids to one run on three hits. Graveman had 7 K's.
The Lugnuts were facing Kohl Stewart, a top prospect. They got to him in the third inning when Matt Dean singled in two runs and Mitch Nay doubled in another. The Lugnuts had six hits, Dean continued his hot hitting ways with two.
