The Bluefield kids had their hitting shoes on. Dawel Lugo was 5-5, Mitch Nay 3-5 and DJ Davis 2-5, all with home runs. Mike Nickeas hit a walk off home run for Buffalo. Lansing had a nice come from behind win. Tom Robson led Vancouver to a nice win. New Hmapshire and Dunedin were shutout. For the second straight night a Blue Jay team was almost no-hit. Dunedin didn't get their first hit until the ninth inning. The GCL Jays lost as Matt Smoral struggled with his control again.
Pawtucket 3 Buffalo 5
This game came down to the ninth inning tied 2-2. Clint Robinson made an error on the first hitter of the inning and that hitter scored later on a ground out to put Pawtucket up 3-2. Up to that point the Bisons had been stymied by the knuckleballer Charlie Haeger and Franklin Morales. Morales got Moises Sierra out to start the ninth then gave way to Jose Contreras. Contreras struck out Andy LaRoche but then walked Kevin Pillar. Ricardo Nanita doubled in a run to tie the game and then Mike Mickeas homered for the win.
The Bisons had only 5 hits, Mauro Gomez had 2. Anthony Gose was 0-3 with a walk. Pillar came on as a pinch hitter and was 0-1 with a walk. Thad weber went seven innings and was charged with 2 runs.
New Hampshire 0 Richmond 5
Marcus Walden had one bad inning, the third. In that inning five straight Richmond hitters had a hit leading to four runs. In total walden went 7 innings and gave up 8 hits, so two hits outside of the third inning. Walden also had 9 strikeouts.
The Fisher Cats had only 3 hits. Andy Burns and AJ Jimenez each were 0-4.
Palm Beach 7 Dunedin 0
The Jays did not have a hit until the ninth, Matt Newman singled leading off the inning but that was followed by a double play.
The normally reliable Austin Bibens-Dirkx took the loss, he was charged with 4 runs in 5.2 innings.
Lansing 5 Fort Wayne 3
Lansing trailed 3-0 before 2 runs in the fifth and 3 in the sixth gave them the lead for good. Ben White started and went seven innings, long enough to get the win.
In the fifth Jordan Leyland and Jason Leblebijian singled, Dwight Smith doubled in a run and a second run scored on a ground out. In the sixth Dan Klein doubled in 2 runs and Smith singled to score another. Smith and Carlos Ramirez were 2-4, Chris Hawkins was 3-5.
Hillsboro 2 Vancouver 8
Tom Robson had a nice start although it got off to a rough start. Robson gave up a run in the first inning but then settled down to go six innings with just the one run allowed. Robson also had six K's which was a lot for him. Matt Dermody pitched two innings and had a binary result, the hitter either singled, four times, or struck out, all six hitters. Dermody was charged with an unearned run.
The Canadians bunched a lot of their hits, six of their runs were scored by the first three hitters in the lineup. Chaz Frank was 2-2 with 2 walks, and his hits were a double and a triple. Andy Fermin and LB Dantzler were each 2-4.
Bluefield 14 Elizabethton 6
The Jays scored aerly and often, they led 8-1 after two innings and cruised from there. Some of their big names were the starts on this night. Dawel Lugo went 5-5 with a double and a home run. Mitch Nay was 3-5 with a home run. DJ Davis was 2-5 with a triple and a home run. Derrick Loveless also had 2 hits.
Jairo Labourt went 4 innings, he gave up a run and his ERA is now 1.35.
GCL Blue Jays 3 GCL Tigers 8
A 5 run seventh broke a 3-3 tie. In that inning Matt Smoral pitched. His control problems came back, a walk, two hit batters and a single scored a run and loaded the bases. Kamakani Usui relieved Smoral and let the three runners score. He took the loss. Jacob Brentz also pitched, he loaded the bases on a couple of walks and a hit batter but he got three outs without a run scoring. Corey Gorman started and gave up 3 runs in 6 innings.
The Jays put together 5 hits in the third inning to score their 3 runs. The Jays outhit the Tigers 14-9 but lost. John Tolisano and Rowdy Tellez had three hits each. Tom Collins and Gabriel Cenas had two hits each. Cenas has been hitting well but he is still looking for a defensive position. He DH'd in this game.
