There were many outstanding performances on the farm on Friday. Mauro Gomez hit a two run home run in the first inning and that was enough for Justin Germano and the Bisons. Marcus Stroman pitched well, left with the lead, but the game went to extra innings where Brad Glenn homered to give the Fisher Cats the win. In comparison Dunedin took a 6-1 lead and won easily. Lansing won a close game behind another good start from Daniel Norris. Vancouver won with a shutout. Bluefield won both ends of a doubleheader. In game one Dawel Lugo hit a walk off, three run home run. The GCL Jays lost, the only blemish on the day.
Toledo 1 Buffalo 2
Mauro Gomez hit a two run home run in the first inning and Justin Germano and John Stilson made it hold up. Germano went seven innings and was charged with the one run. Stilson pitched the eighth and ninth, one hit, one walk, two K's.
The Bisons had just six hits, Pillar was 1-4, Gose 1-3.
New Hampshire 4 Trenton 3 - 10 innings
Marcus Stroman pitched seven strong innings and left with a 3-2 lead. Stroman gave up four hits and two of them scored, a lead off double and a lead off single followed by a wild pitch. Both were able to score on ground outs. Alan Farina gave up a lead off triple in the eighth and soon thereafter the game was tied. Randy Boone pitched the last two and picked up the win.
The game winning blow was a home run by Brad Glenn in the tenth. Kevin Nolan was 4-4 and drove in a run. Ryan Schimpf was 3-4 and had a triple and a run scored. Adam Loewen had two hits and an RBI, Andy Burns had one hit, AJ Jimenez was 0-5.
Fort Myers 3 Dunedin 6
Austin Bibens-Dirkx was his usual efficient self, six innings one run. Tyler Ybarra struck out the side in the seventh. Ajay Meyer took over a 6-1 lead in the eighth and gave back two runs.
Marcus Knecht was 2-5 with a home run and drove in two runs. KC Hobson hit a 2 run home run. Shane Opitz drove in two runs also, one with a single and one on a sac fly.
Lansing 2 Clinton 1
This game was interrupted by rain in the fourth. That caused Daniel Norris to be pulled after 3.2 innings. Norris shut out Clinton with two hits and two walks. He had just one strikeout. Here are Norris's ERA by month: 9.56; 4.03; 2.70; 0.00. To be fair June and July are small sample sizes due to his injury. Norris has made a lot of progress this season. Kramer Champlin almost matched Norris with 3.1 shutout innings.
The two crucial runs came in the fourth inning. Santiago Nessy singled then Christian Lopes doubled into the gap. When the shortstop threw away the ball on the relay Lopes was able to come all the way around to score. Lopes was 2-4.
Eugene 0 Vancouver 4
Good pitching wins games, Colton Turner pitched five shutout innings, Alonzo Gonzalez, fresh from Lansing, pitched three and Matt Johnson the ninth.
Brenden Kalfus was 4-4 and was on base, with Michael Reeves, when David Harris drove them both in. Harris scored on a sac fly from Dickie Thon. That was in the second inning.In the third Christian Vazquez singled in Justin Atkinson for the fourth run.
Burlington 6 Bluefield 7 - game 1
The Jays trailed 6-4 headed to the bottom of the seventh. Two walks left two on with two outs and with Dawel Lugo coming to the plate. Lugo hit one out to left for the walk off win. The Jays were down 6-1 in the middle of the fifth but a run in the fifth and two in the sixth setup Lugo's heroics. DJ Davis homered in the fifth. Lugo was 1-3, and hit by a pitch, and he drove in 3 runs and scored 3 runs.
Mark Biggs started and gave up 4 runs in 3 innings. Joe Lovecchio pitched the seventh and got the win.
Burlington 2 Bluefield 5 - game 2
The Jays trailed 2-0 after 4 innings, they had two hits in the game at that point. A lead-off walk got things started in the bottom of the fifth. A Garrett Custons double put two runners on for DJ Jones who singled both home to tie the game. Two walks loaded the bases, a wild pitch put Bluefield ahead and Mitch Nay drove in two more to complete the five run inning.
Brady Dragmire started and pitched five innings, he gave up 2 runs, one earned on four hits. Alvido Jimenez finished the last two innings for the save. Matt Dean went 2-3 to lead the hitters.
GCL Yankees 9 GCL Blue Jays 5
The baby Jays made 6 errors, Franklin Barreto made 3 of them. Barreto was also 0-5 with 3 K's, ouch! Oscar Cabrera was charged with 3 runs, Francisco Diaz with 4.
Three of the hitters had two hits, Tom Collins, who is showing he is too old for the GCL, and kids Edwin Fuentes and Dan Jansen.
