It was an eventful night on the farm. Kevin Pillar and Andy Burns made their debuts with multi-hits games. Aaron Sanchez returned from the DL and didn't miss a beat. Burns and DJ Davis were each a home run short of the cycle.
Pillar was backed up with good pitching to lead Buffalo to the win. Burns debut was less successful as New Hampshire lost a winnable game. Dunedin had good pitching behind Sanchez and won. Lansing pitchers were blown out and the hitters went hitless. Bluefield's pitchers, Zak Wasilewski and Alberto Tirado were roughed up a bit in their first game. DJ Davis had three hits but it wasn't enough. Vancouver took an early lead and held on for a one run win.
Durham 2 Buffalo 3
With Jose Reyes and Kevin Pillar in town it was good pitching that stole the show. Thad Weber pitched six innings, following up on his excellent last start. Mickey Storey, Tommy Hottovy and Brad Lincoln got them home safeguarding the one run lead.
Doubles from Jim Negrych and Ryan Goins got the Bisons on the board in the second inning. In the fifth Pillar doubled home Ochinko and Reyes. Pillar led the team with two hits in his AAA debut. Reyes was 1-4 with a double.
New Hampshire 6 Harrisburg 7
This was a tough loss. The Fisher Cats led 4-1 behind Marcus Stroman but the bullpen coughed up five runs with an Andy Burns error thrown in. New Hampshire came back to tie the game at 6 but the bullpen immediately gave up a home run, the eventual losing run. Stroman just pitched five innings and needed 93 pitches to do so. He three hits and one run allowed were good but the efficiency was not. Stroman had 62 strikes among his 93 pitches. The ball, strike ratio was good but 62 strikes in five innings were too many. It suggests Stroman was having trouble putting hitters away.
Burns was 3-5 with a single, double and a triple. He did have an error. Brad Glenn and Tommy Manzella had two hits. AJ Jimenez went 1-5 with a double.
Dunedin 3 Daytona 1
Pitching was the key to the win. Aaron Sanchez returned from the DL and pitched just three innings allowing just one seeing eye single. Shawn Griffith gave up a run but then Tyler Ybarra pitched 2.1 hitless innings and John Anderson finished with two hitless innings.
The Jays scored two in the fifth, doubles by Marcus Knecht and Shane Opitz were the big hits. Gabe Jacobo added a solo home run in the ninth for some insurance. Opitz was the only Jay with two hits.
Lansing 1 Bowling Green 14
Ben White was tattoed for 8 runs, Efrain Nieves added 4 more and the Lugnuts were down 12-1 in the fourth. Griffin Murphy conceded two more.
The Lugnuts were held hitless by four pitchers. They did walk eight times but their only run scored thanks to an error.
Vancouver 5 Salem-Keizer 4
Andy Fermin drove in the first three runs, a ground ball scored Dickie Thon who had tripled, a sac fly scored Ronny Melendez, and a single scored Thon who had walked. The fourth and fifth runs scored on wild pitches. Thon led the hitters going 2-3 with a walk.
Jeremy Gabryszwski did what he does, throw strikes, no walks, give up some hits and some runs. "Gabby" pitched five innings and was charged with two runs on six hits. The bullpen held Salem-Keizer at bay until the ninth when they scored two off Chuck Ghysels.
Greeneville 9 Bluefield 5
One night after getting some excellent pitching it was opposite night in Bluefield. Zak Wasilewski was wild, he hit a batter, threw two wild pitches and gave up four runs on six hits in three innings. Alberto Tirado was charged with four runs too, just two earned on five hits in 3.1 innings.
DJ Davis had three hits, like Burns he had a single, double and a triple. Eric Arce had two hits including a two run home run. Dawel Lugo and Mitch Nay had a hit each.
