Ricky Romero pitches Saturday but Jeremy Jeffress pitched Friday and he pitched two good innings. Aaron Sanchez started that game and he wasn't perfect but he did have seven strikeouts. Daniel Norris started for Lansing and while he lost he kept the ball down, only one ball was hit in the air against him. Both Dunedin and Lansing lost. New Hampshire won behind good pitching from Marcus Walden and another home run from Ryan Schimpf. Buffalo won again with home runs from Luis Jimenez, Moises Sierra and Eugenio Velez and of course three hits by Jim Negrych.
Pawtucket 4 Buffalo 8
Another win for the Bisons, this one of the come from behind kind. The Bisons were down 4-2 in the third but they scored in six of their eight innings. Buffalo had three home runs, Moises Sierra, Luis Jimenez had one as part of his three hits and Eugenio Velez had a two run shot off rehabbing Joel Hanrahan in the eighth. Jim Negrych again had three hits as he stays hot. Anthony Gose was 1-3 with a walk. Moises Sierra and Josh Thole had two hits each.
Claudio Vargas started and went six innings. Alex Hinshaw and Neil Wagner pitched three hitless innings.
New Hampshire 3 Reading 1
Clint Robinson homered in the fourth to give NH a 1-0 lead. Ryan Schimpf added a two run shot in the fifth to make it 3-0. Kevin Pillar and Schimpf had two hits each. Kenny Wilson left the game in the early going.
Marcus Walden pitched seven innings. He gave up a run in the seventh but that was it, he was tagged for 7 hits and one walk in his seven innings. He also had 4 strikeouts. Joel Carreno got the save by striking out the side. Where is Chad Beck, mayne headed for New York?
Dunedin 3 Brevard County 4
Aaron Sanchez started and had mixed results. He allowed three singles and a run in the first inning. It could have been worse, he had runners on second and third with one out but he struck out two in a row to escape. Sanchez gave up a bunt single in the second and a two-out triple in the fourth but no runs. He walked the lead off hitter in the sixth and was pulled. Sanchez final line was 5 IP, 5H, 1BB, 7K. He was charged with two runs. Tyler Ybarra made his first appearance of the year for the Jays and he was rusty, he allowed a triple to score Sanchez' walk, two walks of his own as well as a sac fly to give up two runs of his own as well. Ybarra was followed by Jeremy Jeffress who pitched two innings and gave up a single. He did not have any walks or K's.
Dunedin trailed 4-0 heading to the ninth when they staged a rally. A one out walk followed by four singles made it 4-3 with two on. But Peter Mooney and Andy Burns flew out. Jon Berti and Derrick Chung had two hits each, Burns took an 0-5.
Lansing 0 Quad Cities 4
Daniel Norris, 4 innings pitched, three hits, three walks, 4 K's. The most encouraging stat was six ground ball outs. Norris's 12 outs came from 6 GB's, 4 K's, one pop out and one pick-off. And all three hits were on ground balls. It would be nice if there were fewer walks but this looks like progress to me. Ben White followed Norris and he allowed the other three runs.
The Lugnuts had only five hits, Christian Lopes had two and Dwight Smith had one in his first game.
Three Stars
#3 - Ryan Schimpf
