From Rain to Pain

The rain held off and there were six games played.  The affiliates had only one win and, to add insult to injury, the Lugnuts were no-hit. Buffalo had the only win thanks to Dave Bush, Anthony Gose and Andy LaRoche.  In the nightcap Miguel Batista couldn't get out of the first inning and a parade of relievers were no better.  New Hampshire were also down early while Dunedin lost a close one.  Brett Lawrie outhit the other eight hitters 2-1.

Lansing had Roberto Osuna and Daniel Norris starting today.  Osuna pitched well but had one bad inning and when your hitters are no hit that's all that matters.  Norris too was good, and much better, for three innings but he lost it in the fourth.  But I am sure he will be happy that he showed improvement today.

Scranton 1  Buffalo 6 - game 1

Buffalo scored six runs in the first inning and that was good enough.  Josh Thole singled in the first two runs, Ryan Goins doubled in three more.  Anthony Gose was 3-4, Andy LaRoche had two hits.

Dave Bush was excellent, he went five inning and only allowed three hits.  The Jays scored their six runs off Yankee prospect Dellin Betances.

Scranton 12  Buffalo 5 - game 2

Miguel Batista did not get out of the first inning.  A lead-off error by Mauro Gomez didn't help but Batista made it worse and he left with three runs in.  Three of the next four pitchers allowed multiple runs.  The only one who didn't, Alex Hinshaw, walked 4 batters in an inning and a third.  The Bisons took a brief lead by scoring four in the second inning.  Eugenio Velez tripled with the bases loaded and McCoy added a double.

Jim Negrych went 2-2 and is hitting .611.  The hitting stars of game 1, Gose and LaRoche, were 0-8 in the nightcap with 9 men left on base.

New Hampshire 3   Binghamton 6

Austin Bibens-Dirkx had pitched well in his first two starts but he was wild on Sunday.  He was charged with all six runs.  The Fisher Cats chipped away with runs in three innngs but never got close.  Kevin Pillar drove in the first and third runs while Brad Glenn hit a sol hme run for the middl run.

Pillar and Kevin Nolan had two hits each.  The two Kevins had four hits out of 9 for NH.

Lakeland 2  Dunedin 0

Were the Jays hitters in awe of Brett Lawrie?  The Jays were outhit 11-3 with Lawrie getting two of the three hits.  Lawrie was a part of two double plays, he handled two chances and participated in a rundown.

Jesse Hernandez pitched six innings, gave up 8 hits, and was charged with the first run which scored after he was pulled.  The starter for Lakeland was Kevin Eichhorn.

South Bend 1  Lansing 0 - game 1

Lansing were no-hit by Kyle Schepel.  Roberto Osuna pitched 4.2 innings with 4 hits, one walk and six K's.  Entering the fourth he had a one hitter going but he gave up three hits in the inning and had one runner thrown out at the plate before the go-ahead run scored.  Griffin Murphy pitched the last 2.1 innings and kept his ERA at zero.

South Bend  Lansing - game 2

Daniel Norris had given up one run through three innings.  A lead-off double in the second came around to score on a sac fly.  He also had three K's to that point.  But in the fourth a walk, triple, hit batter and a home run made it four runs allowed.  Matt Johnson gave up three runs in the fifth to make it 8-1.  The Lugnuts did get four hits, Christian Lopes had two.

Three Stars, tugh with 5 losses

#3 - Roberto Osuna

#2 - Anthony Gose

#1 - Dave Bush
