The big story on the farm was Brett Cecil and Mark Sobelewski’s performance for Las Vegas.  Cecil threw just 93 pitches in his 8 innings of work, but didn’t get the decision when Jerry Gil allowed 2 runs in the top of the ninth.  And the other story was Sobelewski’s 3 run blast that put the 51s in the lead in the 6th.  With all of the roster moves, including a first inning yank of McCoy from the field for a call up to Toronto, the 51s are settling down with the talent they have left and seem to be returning to their winning ways.

Las Vegas 4  Iowa 3

4,880 hometown faithful at Cashman Field saw Brett Cecil put on a throwing show, putting in 8.0 innings, allowing only 2 hits and a single run while putting 7 K’s on the Board.  Jerry Gil (7-1) came in for the top of the 9th and faced 6 batters, gave up 2 runs and 3 hits as well as the lead.   After Gil blew the save, Las Vegas bats stepped up in the bottom of the 9th and gave the win to him on newcomer Luke Hughes (1-4, RBI, BB) walk off single.

The 51s put ten hits on the board and left 12 on base as at least three scoring opportunities went for naught.  Man Mountain Mike McDade (3-5) had three hits and vetran Chris Woodward went 3-4.  RBI production came from Hughes and from a 3 run blast from Mark Sobolewski (1-4) in the 6th inning.

New Hampshire  2  Akron 7

Starter Chorye Spoone (2-3) took the loss, pitching just 2.2 innings giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits in the opener of a twin bill in Akron.  Joel Carreno and Tystan Magnuson came on in relieve pitching a combined 4.1 IP allowing 3 hits, 4 runs and a home run. Brian Bocock (0-3) booted his 11th error and Joel Carreno three one away, his 4th error on the season.

Seven runs proved to much for anemic Fisher Cats bats.  Kevin Howard (1-3) picked up his 2 RBIs on a ground out and a single for New Hampshire’s only runs on the evening.  Ryan Goins (2-2, BB) had a pair of doubles and Koby Clemens (1-3) added a hit in the DH slot.

New Hampshire  3  Akron 1

In the nightcap, the Fisher Cats turned the tables on Akron.  Strong pitching from starter Fernando Hernandez (5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K) gave way to a decision for game winner Marcus Stroman (1-0) who threw a scoreless 1.0 IP and was saved by Ronald Uviedo (s, 7) who allowed 1 hit and managed a K in his 1.0 IP.  Ryan Schimps (0-2) committed a pair of errors, one fielding, one throwing , his first on the year.  Ryan Goins (0-3) threw his way to 14 total errors on the year as well.

The only New Hampshire RBIs came from Brian Van Kirk (1-3, 2B, BB, RBI) and Brian Jeroleman (0-1, RBI).  Brad Glen (2-3, 2B) had the only Fisher Cat multi-hit performance with a single and a double.  Koby Clemens (1-2) added another single as well.

Dunedin  8  Daytona 5

In a slug fest with 22 total hits from both teams, Dunedin came out on top with Randy Boone (1-1) taking the win on 2.0 IP allowing one BB and striking out 1.  Danny Barnes took the save, his 29th.  Justin Jackson booted his fourth error of the year.

Dunedin bats put 8 runs on the board including 2 RBI production from Kenny Wilson (3-5, 2 RBIs) and Jon Tally (2-4, 2B, 2 RBIs).  Jonathan Jones (1-4), Kevin Pillar (2-3), Oliver Dominguez (2-3, 3B) and Jon Berti (2-15, 2B) each added an RBI.

Vancouver 10  Tri-City 4

The Canadians put some real lumber to Tri-City amassing 17 hits on the evening.  Good thing, because Vancouver pitching allowed 9 hits but spaced out 4 runs allowing 3 in the 1st and 1 in the 6th.  Taylor Cole (4-6) took the win in 6.0 IP with 7 hits, 4 runs and an impressive 7 Ks.

Hitting happy Vancouver had two 3 hit performers… Kellen Sweeney (3-5, 2B, RBI) and Art Charles (3-5, 2B).  Jason Leblebijian (2-4, 3B, 3RBI), Dwight Smith (2-5, 2B, 2 RBI) and Daniel Arcila (2-4, 2 RBIs) had multi- RBI nights, with Jorge Flores (2-2, RBI) and Tucker Frawley (1-5, RBI) adding an RBI each.

Two RBI nights belong to Jorge Vega-Rosado (2-4, HR, 2 RBIs) including a 2 run dinger in the 6th; and Seth Conner (2-3, 2 RBIs).  Nico Taylor (2-3, RBI) also batted in a run.
