Three affiliates gave up runs in the ninth inning. For Las Vegas and Bluefield it lost them the game, for Lansing it extended the game until the tenth where they lost. Dunedin had their game go to twelve innings and they won. New Hampshire also had a nice win. Vancouver and the GCL Jays lost. With so many losses there were few standout performances. Jon Talley led Dunedin, Jorge Vega-Rosado keyed the Bluefield comeback that was in vain and Nick Baligod looked like he had driven in the winning run for Lansing before the melt-down.
Among the more notable players, Roberto Osuna pitched reasonably well. Marcus Stroman's first pitch was "outahere". Anthony DeSclafani pitched well for Lansing.
The 51's lost in the bottom of the ninth, David Carpenter gave up three hits and hit a batter in the ninth and he took the loss. Shawn Hill had a reasonable start, 4 runs allowed on nine hits, no walks, in six innings.
The offense was distributed widely with four players scoring and four driving in a run. Mike McCoy had two hits, the only 51 to do so.
The first five runs came on home runs. Kevin Howard got the Fisher Cats off to a strong start with a 2 run home run in the first inning. A Brian Bocock home run made it a 3-1 game in the third. Brad Glenn hit a two run home run in the eighth. Ryan Schimpf and Sean Ochinko went back to back with doubles in the ninth for an insurance run.
Yohan Pino pitched six innings giving up just one run. Marcus Stroman came on in the seventh and his first pitch was drilled for a home run. He also gave up another hit and a walk while K'ing two. Joel Carreno gave up 2 runs in the eighth, Trystan Magnuson pitched the ninth for the save.
Ryan Goins and John Tolisano had two hits each for New Hampshire.
Dunedin 3 Brevard County 2 - 12 innings
Dunedin tied the game in the ninth on a Jon Berti sac fly. Brevard County loaded the bases against Frank Gailey in the eleventh but Gailey got out of it. He wasn't happy though, and he was ejected by the home plate umpire. Right after that, in the top of the twelfth, a lead off single by Kenny Wilson was followed by two Brevard errors to load the bases. John Talley singled to drive in the eventual winning run. Talley led the offense with three hits. Kevin Pillar and Marcus Knecht had two each.
New Jay Scott Copeland started and was lucky to only give up two runs in 4.2 innings. Ten hitters reached base in those 4.2 innings. The bullpen pitched 7.1 shutout innings with Danny Barnes notching his 28th save.
West Michigan 2 Lansing 1 - 10 innings
Ajay Meyer, who has been very reliable for the Lugnuts this year blew the save in the ninth and took the loss in the tenth. The lead off walk got him in the ninth and a lead-off triple by ex-Lugnut Lance Durham got him in the tenth.
Lansing's only run came in the fifth on an RBI single by Nick Baligod. Baligod had three hits. Chris Hawkins and Kipp Schutz had two each. Lansing had no extra base hits.
Anthony DeSclafani pitched six shutout innings, four hits, no walks, five K's.
Roberto Osuna started but he didn't get the loss. The bullpen was charged with seven runs. Osuna's first start for Vancouver was great, his second start was not so good. This one was somewhere in the middle. Osuna only pitched 3.2 innings. He had to battle through the first inning when the bases were loaded on an error, a single and a walk. But then he retired eight in a row before two walks in the fourth put two runners on with two out. Another error allowed a run to score and that was it for Osuna. Osuna's final line showed one hit allowed, three walks and two K's in those 3.2 innings.
Vancouver had only four hits and their run came via an error too.
Bluefield trailed 3-0 but scored three in the seventh to tie the game. The game went to the bottom of the ninth, tied, but a one out walk, a stolen base and a single gave Princeton the win. Jeremy Gabryszwski started and was charged with the three runs on six hits.
Jorge Vega-Rosado led the Jays with three hits, his triple in the seventh inning brought in two runs to tie the game. Santiago Nessy had two hits.
The Jays outhit the Yankees 6-5 but couldn't get a key hit. DJ Davis doubled to lead off the game but never moved off second. Derrick Loveless tripled leading off the third but the next three hitters struck out. Emilio Guerrero doubled leading off the fourth and he too stayed at second. Gabriel Cenas doubled to lead off the fifth and taking matters into his own hands he stole third but he too never made it home.
Zachery Wasilewski was wild. He walked six in 2.1 innings and was charged with both runs. Tyler Gonzales and Brandon Kaye pitched well to hold the Yankees at bay for the rest of the game.
