Lots of Blown Games but Vegas are within a Half Game of First Place

Two affiliate wins by the top teams in the system.  Las Vegas's win moved them to within a half game of first place.  Chad Jenkins was good enough to get the win for New Hampshire.  Elsewhere on the farm there were a series of blow-ups.  Egan Smith had a no hitter through five innings but blew up good in the sixth as Dunedin lost.  Vancouver lost both ends of a double header.  In the first game they had a lead going to their closer in the seventh but he coughed up the lead.  Then he gave up another run in the eighth but Vancouver came back to tie but Eugene scored the winning run in the ninth.  In game two Vancouver again had the lead but lost. The GCL Jays took a lead to the ninth but made two errors to lose the game and throw a win away.  Bluefield were rained out and Lansing had the day off.

Las Vegas 4  Fresno 3

This game was tied at 1's heading to the ninth.  That was a surprise, not only because it is a PCL game, but because Scott Richmond was starting for LV.  Since he came back down to AAA from his brief stay in Toronto Richmond has been struggling.  In this game he pitched 5.2 innings and put eleven runners on, not great but an improvement on his last few starts.  In the ninth the bottom of the order came through with Jon Diaz and Joel Galarraga driving in the three runs.  Jerry Gil gave two of them back in the ninth but the 51's got the win.

Galarraga and Ricardo Nanita had three hits each, Diaz, Mike McCoy and Adeiny Hechavarria had two each.  Eric Thames and Moises Sierra were hitless.  In case you hadn't heard David Cooper has a tweaked hammy and is out for a few days.

New Hampshire 7  Harrisburg 3

The Fisher Cats had just one hit through three innings but scored five runs in the fourth. In that inning Kevin Howard had a triple while Ryan Goins, Koby Clemens and Brian Van Kirk each doubled. Van Kirk doubled again in the eighth and scored the sixth run and the Fisher Cats added an unearned run in the ninth.

Chad Jenkins started and pitched six innings. He gave up three runs on seven hits, two of the runs were solo home runs. Chris Jakubauskas, Trystan Magnuson and Sam Dyson each pitched a shutout inning. Goins and Van Kirk had two hits each. Marisnick was 0-3 with 3 K's.

In case you missed it Shi Davidi checked in with Chad Jenkins and Deck McGuire from New Hampshire.

Dunedin 1  Clearwater 3

Egan Smith was throwing a no-hitter, until he wasn't. Smith had only put on one walk through five innings but the the sixth was the opposite inning. Four hits led to three runs and Smith was pulled with one out in the inning.

The Jays offence could only record five hits, Kevin Pillar had two of them.

Lansing - Scheduled day off

Eugene 6  Vancouver 5 - game 1, 9 innings

Vancouver took a 4-3 lead to the seventh but Ian Kadish blew the save. Kadish then gave up another run in the eighth. Vancouver came back to tie the game in the eighth but Eugene scored again in the ninth for the win. Ben White had started and went six innings giving up three runs.

Jorge Flores and Nicholas Baligod had two hits each for the Canadians.

Eugene 4  Vancouver 2 - game 2

Once again Vancouver had the lead in this game but two runs in the fourth tied the game and two more in the sixth were the losers.  Kyle Anderson started and gave up all four runs, three earned.  The Canadians had only three hits.

Danville at Bluefield - doubleheader - postponed

GCL Jays 6  GCL Pirates 7

This was a high scoring game by GCL standards but when you look at the details it gets ugly quickly.  13 runs scored on 13 hits.  The 13 runs came in to score based on the following plays: error; walk; hit batter; wild pitch; fielders choice; double play; ground ball; sac fly; infield single (2); outfield single (3).  Of the 13 runs scored, four of the runs scored with a ball being hit to the outfield.  The Jays went ahead in the eighth 5-4 based on two lead-off walks followed by a wild pitch, and infield single and another wild pitch.  The Pirates won in the bottom of the ninth with a lead off error, a bunt with an error, another bunt and a fielders choice.  You could say the Jays threw the game away, they had four errors in the game.

DJ Davis and Emilio Guerrero had two hits each.  Yeyfry DelRosario started and pitched reasonably well.  Jo-Jo Reyes, yes that Jo-Jo, pitched an inning for the Pirates.  Stetson Allie was 1-3 and is hitting .215.

Three Stars:

3rd star: Joel Galarraga

2nd star: Ricardo Nanita

1st star: Brian Van Kirk
