Noah Syndergaard Continues His Run of Dominance

The affiliates combined for a losing record on Sunday but there were come notable hitting and pitching performances from the likes of Noah Syndergaard, Christian Lopes, and Chris Hawkins.

Las Vegas Off Day

New Britian 4 New Hampshire 0 (Game 1)

Yohan Pino pitched a complete game (double-headers as 7 innings in the minors) but he gave up 11 hits and four runs. He did not issue a walk and struck out two hitters. Only three batters managed a hit: Mike McDade, Brad Glenn and Joel Galarraga. Jake Marisnick was 0-for-3 with a strikeout.

New Hampshire 5 New Britain 4 (Game 2)

Reliever Matt Wright received the spot start but lasted just two innings. He allowed four runs on six hits and a walk. Chris Jakubauskas, a minor league arm just signed to help round out the minor league staff, worked two scoreless innings. Fernando Hernandez pitched three innings and allowed just one hit. Brad Glenn had two hits, including a solo homer. Kenen Bailii was hitless in the first game but he went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the second contest. Ryan Goins was 1-for-4 at the top of the order and scored two runs. Jack Murphy continued his hot hitting, going 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo homer.

Dunedin 4 Tampa 2

Marcus Walden had his best start since being promoted to high-A ball about a month ago. He allowed just one run on two hits and three walks while pitching 7.2 innings. Danny Barnes worked the ninth inning for his 22nd save. He struck out the side but allowed one run on two hits. Kevin Ahrens, back at third base today after playing first on Saturday, had two hits. Jon Berti was 1-for-3 at the top of the order. He walked, stole a base and scored a run. Ryan Schimpf, playing left field, went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer.

Lansing 5 West Michigan 3

The Lugnuts banged out 12 hits against Detroit's farm club. Chris Hawkins continues to pull himself out of a month-long slump. He had four hits in as many at-bats and stole a base. Carlos Perez managed two singles and a double - the only extra base hit out of the team's 12. Kenny Wilson and Andy Burns each had two hits. Kevin Pillar had a rare 0-fer. On the mound, Noah Syndergaard allowed just one run on three hits and a walk. He struck out four batters and induced 10 ground-ball outs. Tyler Ybarra allowed three hits over 1.2 innings of work and that resulted in one run. Ajay Meyer finished off the game for his 23rd save.

Everett 10 Vancouver 6

Starter Ben White was roughed up and allowed seven runs (six earned) in 4.0 innings of work. Andrew Sikula also pitched poorly while struggling with his control; he walked two and hit two batters. Infielder-turned-pitcher Matt Johnson worked a scoreless inning and struck out two hitters. Tucker Donahue finished the game and did not allow a run but he gave up a hit, two walks and threw a wild pitch. Ian Parmley went hitless but he walked twice, stole a base and scored two runs. Jason Leblebijian went 1-for-3 with two walks. Daniel Arcila was 1-for-3 with two walks. Jorge Flores was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a stolen base while hitting out of the nine-hole.

Burlington 6 Bluefield 5

The Royals affiliate came back to steal the win with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning off of Julio Carmona. Tucker Jensen started the game and allowed three unearned runs in as many innings. Brandon Dorsett pitched three shutout innings of relief. At the plate, Christian Lopes had three hits, including a solo home run and he also stole a base. Dwight Smith Jr. and Jorge Vega-Rosada each had two hits. The latter player also stole a base, got picked off first base and made a fielding error. Santiago Nessy was just 1-for-5 but his one hit was a two-run homer. Eric Arce was 0-for-4.

GCL Jays Off Day

DSL Tigers 4 DSL Jays 3

Miguel Castro allowed two runs in as many innings but he did not issue a walk while striking out four hitters. Jose Fernandez worked three innings and allowed two runs (one earned). Gilberto Vielma did not allow a hit in three innings but he walked two and did not strike out a batter. Catcher Andres Sotillo went 2-for-2 with a stolen base. Andres De Aza was 1-for-1 as a pinch hitter. Edwin Fuentes went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored. Outfielder Leudy Garcia, a recent signee, was cleared by MLB for game action and went 1-for-4 with a double in his pro debut.
