Scott Richmond just didn't have it last night, he gave up seven hits and five runs in the first two innings. The 51's were put into a hole they couldn't climb out of. In AA the Richmond Flying Squirrels had two hits off Joel Carreno. One of them was a solo home run and it put the sad sack Fisher Cats in a hole they couldn't climb out of. Dunedin rescued the day by winning easily behind Sean Nolin and Gabe Jacobo. Lansing were off. Unusually, neither the Las Vegas or the New Hampshire hitters could register an extra base hit.
The battle of Nevada was won by the upstarts, the Reno Aces. As mentioned above Scott Richmond was "off" and allowed six runs over four innings. For the second straight game the 51's offense has gone quiet. They had just six hits, two by Adeiny Hechavarria who scored the only run. All six hits were singles.
Joel Carreno faced one hitter over the minimum through seven innings. Unfortunately that one was a home run. Carreno did give up a second hit but that was erased on a double play. Carreno didn't walk anyone and had 6 K's.
The offense couldn't get anything going, they had five hits, all singles, but they hit into two double plays.
The first hitter of the game hit a home run off Sean Nolin. After that Nolin shut down the Cardinals. Nolin pitched 5.2 innings and gave up 7 hits with 6 K's. Drew Permison was promoted from extended today and pitched the ninth inning.
The offense got going in the second inning with a four spot. The scoring was capped with a 2 run HR from Gabe Jacobo who has been on fire over the last month. Jacobo was a minor league rule 5 selection over the winter. Jacobo is already 25 years old and is really too old for the FSL; he played AA last season. The Jays have too many first basemen who are playing well, Lind at AAA; McDade at AA; and Talley and Jacobo at A.
In the seventh inning Kevin Ahrens doubled in a run and Jack Murphy singled in two more. Ahrens and Jacobo led the offense with two hits each.
