Vlad Guerrero played his fourth game on
Thursday for the Dunedin Blue Jays. The man among the boys also hit
his 4th homer. His OPS is a mere 1.550 in those games. One
might surmise he is very close to being a Toronto Blue Jay instead.
Robert Coello probably shouldn't get real comfortable. Otherwise, how
was it for the farm on Thursday? They went 2-1 with one game
suspended.
Read on for details.
One-time sentimental favorite turned organizational soldier Scott Richmond was on the mound tonight in Tuscon and turned in a typically pedestrian effort. He allowed 4 earned runs on seven hits and three walks in 6.2 innings. Jerry Gil and Chad Beck each picked up a shutout appearance to finish things off.
Every hitter in the lineup except Eric Thames got a hit, five of them (Gose, Lind, Diaz, Gomes and d'Arnaud) got two. Anthony Gose tripled and Yan Gomes had a solo shot homer.
Statistical trivia – only two hitters in the PCL still have more XBH than Travis d'Arnaud. Neither are catchers.
New Hampshire 5, New Britain 6
Joel Carreno was good-but-not-great in a losing effort on Thursday. He allowed 2 runs and six baserunners in 5.1 innings while striking out 7. He was relieved by matt Daly who blew up real good in the seventh by allowing 4 runs and giving the Rock-Cats all the cushion they would need.
Ryan Goins led the offense with 2 doubles in a 3 for 5 effort. John tolisano and Brad Glenn also had a double apiece.
Statistical trivia – The fisherCats are 12-12 on the road . . . and 8-19 at home.
Starter Sean Nolin was just okay, at best, allowing 3 runs in 5 IP while striking out 6.
The real news from the D-Jays was the offensive explosion. Besides the aforementioned Guerrero (who also had 5 RBI), shortstop Kevin Nolan was 4 for 5 with a pair of doubles, CF Jon Jones was 3 of 4 and also doubled twice, and three other hitters also had two hits, two of those players also stroking a double. Every starter had at least one hit except Jack Murphy,
Statistical trivia: 1B Gabe Jacobo (playing RF tonight) is on an eight game hitting streak, on which he has at least 2 hits in all eight games. On the streak he's hitting .472 and, oddly for a 1B, has been leading off that whole time. If he were not doing this in the FSL at the age of 25...
Lansing v. Bowling Green – Suspended scoreless.
Justin Nicolino pitched all 4 innings, allowing only a single hit. One presumes Sanchez will pick it up when the game resumes tomorrow, but that doesn't necessarily mean the tandem is busted. The next scheduled turn for the due was on 5 days rest anyway. I think the tandems will run until the A level All-Star breaks. Dunedin comes out of their break just as Lansing's begins and that would seen an obvious time to potentially promote a pitcher or two in order to spread the four guys pitching in tandem out.
Offensively, there was nothing much to report except that Gus Pierre picked up his first hit of the season in his second official game.
Statistical trivia – Andy Burns is second in the MWL in OPS and doubles, and first in XBH
Third Star – Gabe Jacobo, eight straight multi-hit game
Second Star – Kevin Nolan, 4/5 2 doubles
First Star – Vlad Guerrero, 3/5, 2 homers, 5 RBI
