Three teams played last night and they scored 28 runs, had 42 hits and there was a total of 51 runs scored in the three games. Las Vegas had 19 hits and lost. New Hampshire were rained out. Travis 'd'Arnaud continued his hot streak as did Jon Talley. Adam Lind and Yan Gomes had some hits and so did Vladimir Guerrero. KC Hobson keyed a big comeback for Lansing.
I reached out to the Jays concerning Mitchell Taylor and I have been told he retired last spring. Obviously Taylor had some issues both during last season and in the off-season. The Jays wouldn't comment on specifics but they say Taylor is not on any roster at this time and has been placed on the voluntarily retired list.
Anthony Gose tripled to lead off the game and scored the 51's first run. In the second inning he singled in the second run, stole 2nd, stole 3rd and scored on an Adam Lind single. That was it for Gose in the excitement department, he struck out in his next three at-bats.
Yohan Pino appears to be one of those pitchers who is good enough for AA but not quite good enough for AAA. Pino was just promoted from New Hampshire and gave up four runs in his first two innings. He did settle down and finished five with just the four runs allowed.
Danny Perales homered in the third to tie the game and Travis d'Arnaud homered in the fourth to put Las Vegas ahead. But it was the fifth inning that saw a lot of action. Las Vegas scored five runs, one on a d'Arnaud double and four on a grand slam by Yan Gomes. That six run lead lasted a half inning. Tim Redding came into the game in the sixth and gave up six runs, including back to back home runs. Things calmed down after that but in the eighth Jedd Gyorko homered off Bobby Korecky and that was it.
Las Vegas out hit Tuscon 19-14 and lost. Lind, d'Arnaud and Perales each had three hits.
New Britain at New Hampshire - Postponed
Dunedin scored five runs in the fifth to break up a scoreless game. Vladdy started it with a home run. That might have startled the pitcher because it was followed by four straight singles off the bats of Kevin Nolan, Jon Talley, Marcus Knecht and Ryan Schimpf. A couple of sac flys and a wild pitch later and the Jays led 5-0. John Stilson immediately gave up a couple of runs to tighten the game. But Talley drove in a run in the sixth and another in the eighth to stretch the lead. Vladdy also doubled in a run and finished the night 3-5.
Talley was 3-3 with two walks. Talley is having a bit of a breakout year at age 23. His OPS is 900 which is great in the FSL. You really have to hit to make it as a first baseman but Talley is opening some eyes. Gabe Jacobo also had two hits and is hitting .333.
John Stilson started and went five innings for the win. He gave up two runs on four hits. So far this season Stilson has been reasonably good. He has given up a hit per innings and his K/9IP rate is around 8.
David Rollins didn't have either luck or good results and was gone in the second inning having given up five runs. Eric Brown followed and gave up two more in the third and Lansing trailed 7-3. But the Luggies picked up a pair in the third and five in the fourth to lead 10-7. Lake County picked up a pair in the eighth to make it a nail-biter but Ajay Meyer recorded a 1-2-3 ninth. The Lugnuts had 12 hits, spread relatively evenly through the order. KC Hobson had a big home run in the five run fourth. Chris Hawkins had just one hit but it was a triple. The two hit guys were Carlos Perez, Andy Burns, Shane Opitz and Kevin Pillar.
3 Stars (Vladdy ineligible version):
