Everybody's a Winner

It was a great day for the affiliates. One team won it all, another advanced to the championship series, and another took a 1-0 lead in the divisional series. There were no losers in Jaysville on Sunday.

Vancouver 9 Tri-City 2 (Canadians take Northwest League Championship)

Jesse Hernandez took to the mound and controlled the game for six innings. He allowed just one run on three hits and a walk. He struck out nine batters. Bryan Longpre worked two important innings and gave up just one run. Drew Permison shut the door in the ninth inning to perserve the win. At the plate, both Jon Berti and Balbino Fuenmayor drove in two runs. No. 9 hitter Shane Optiz had three hits, including a triple. He also scored a run and had a RBI. Nick Baligod, Kevin Patterson, and Fuenmayor each had two hits.

New Hampshire 4 Reading 2 (Advance to Eastern League Finals)

Yohan Pino pitched well. The double-A vet allowed just one run in six innings of work. The right-hander gave up five hits and one walk. He fanned four batters. Evan Crawford earned the win in relief with three Ks over 1.1 innings. He did not allow a hit or a ball out of the infield (3 Ks, 1 GB). Another double-A vet, Bobby Korecky, saved the game. At the plate, Michael McDade had three hits, including a double, and drove in one run. Moises Sierra had two hits. Danny Perales had just one hit but he made it count with a two-run home run in the ninth inning to break the tie.

Lansing 4 Fort Wayne 1 (Lansing leads Midwest League Divisional series 1-0)

Egan Smith did not allow a run in five innings. He gave up four hits and a walk but struck out five batters. Dustin Antolin allowed one unearned run in two innings of work. Shawn Griffith and Danny Barnes finished off the game with scoreless frames. Jonathan Jones went 2-for-2 with a walk and a RBI. Michael Crouse was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Playoff stud Matt Nuzzo went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Jake Marisnick continues to struggle a bit in the playoffs and is now hitting .154.
