The Farm Cubs were undefeated on the evening and 4 of the 7 games were decided by 2 runs or less.   Notably the Farm Club Pitching staffs were brilliant overall, striking out a total of 69 in the 7 games played Friday (average: 9.5 Ks per game)

Las Vegas 10  Tucson 8

A strong 7.0 IP was delivered by LV starter Brad Mills (9-7) allowing seven runs, but striking out 9.  He took the win, thanks to 7 runs scored in the late innings by the 51s.  Danny Farquar came on in the 9th to get the save, his 9th.  And the offence wasn’t too shabby at all.

At the plate, the 51s served up some long ball led by Scott Woodward (3 for 4, 2R, 2HR, 4RBIs). Brett Lawrie (2 for 5 ,2R, HR, K) drove in a pair with a dinger in the 8th.  And Ricardo Nanita (2 for 4, 2R, HR, RBI, BB) went yard all alone in the 3rd.  Jayson Nix (3 for 5, R, 3 2B,RBI) and Danny Perales (3 for 4, R, K) each added hit X 3.  David Cooper (1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K) and Ryan Budde (1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K) threw in an RBI each for good measure.  Many Mayorson (0 for 0) was a defence substitution at second base for Woodward and was the only 51 to not hit (he had no ABs).

New Hampshire 2  Portland 1

Pitching was the story as well for the Fisher Cats with Starter and winner Zach Stewart (5-6) shinning in 7.2 IP with 8 Ks, 1 R and 5 H.  Bobby Korecky (S, 9) came on in the 9th for the save, striking out 2, and walking one.  Travis d’Arnaud (1 for 3, R, 2B, BB) had a passed ball in the 4th with runners advancing, but no other damage.

NH trickled out 5 hits, but made them count, scoring their lonely two runs in the 2nd and the 5th.  In the 2nd after a pair of walks by d’Arnaud and Yan Gomes (0 for 1, 2BB), John Tolisano (0 for 4,K) plated d’Arnaud with a force out grounder.  Then Jonathan Diaz (1 for 3, K) singled, bringing Tolisano to the plate where he was thrown out.  In the 5th a Sac Fly to center by Adeiny Hechavarria (1 for 3, 2B, RBI,K) brought in Justin Jackson (0 for 2, R, BB, K) who had walked earlier.  Anthony Gose (2 for 4) had the only multi-hit bat for NH.

Deck McGuire (W, 7-4) had a fine 6.0 inning outing striking out 8 and shutting out the Stone Crabs by allowing only a pair of hits on the rain delayed damp field in Port Charlotte.    Dunedin Scored in the 5th  and 6th innings and Wes Etheridge got the save, working a single inning in the 9th  shutting out Port Charlotte.

Lansing’s 9 hits powered them to a squeak by win o the delight of the 7,123 who attended Cooley Law School field in Lansing on a muggy 96 degree night.  Starting pitcher Andrew Liebel (2-0) got the win despite getting tapped for 3 runs and 4 hits in 5.1 innings of work.   Sam Strickland got his first save of the year, coming on in the 9th to blank Wisconsin with a hit, a BB, and 3 Ks.  Four errors plagued the Luggies defence,  two by Oliver Dominguez (1 for 3, R, BB, RBI, K) his 18th and 19th, one by K.C.
